Jesse Atkinson: Give us some background info as to who you are.
ZONE EZ: I’m Zone EZ of 1Two Punch. I’m a rapper as well as the producer for Young Tek Too Real, Sophia Lovie and Cancan.
JA: What is the significance of your stage name?
ZEZ: My stage name came from my good friend Buck James. He liked the name Zone EZ because It sounded like my grandma Inez. So the name stuck and I signed up to ASCAP with that stage name.
JA: Who is your target market?
ZEZ: My target market is comprised of music fans ages 16 – 45. I target men and women who like all music suck as R&B, Rap, Soul and Rock.
JA: What is your USP? (Unique selling proposition) and what sets you apart from other artists?
ZEZ: What sets me apart from other artists is that I try not to follow the trends they set, because i want to be me. But i hate when someone takes my style and gets rich. So i have to switch up my slang because people will say you sound like so and so.
JA: What single or project are you currently pushing?
ZEZ: I’m currently pushing all my music including the song “Lean Drank” feat Project Pat, “That’s What She Said” feat Lil Flip, “Jelly Roll” feat Pimp C, “It Goes Down” feat Skatterman and Beadz. I also have a song with Dj khalid’s We The Best Music Artist Nino Brown” called “The Big Day”. All of my mixtapes are on the top download sites.
JA: What is the philosophy by which you live by?
ZEZ: I live by the philosophy of take care of yourself and the G code. But respect is key and one bad apple makes all apples bad. I like a good vibes.
JA: Which artists have inspired you?
ZEZ: Artists who have inspired me are Jay-Z, Kanye, Dre, Joe Rizz, Too Short, Pimp C, Jeezy, and the list goes on. However, I like Rick Ross and Young Tek, Too Real and Herbo G a lot right now.
JA: Who does your production?
ZEZ: I work with different producers and I do some production too. But the production on “Jelly Roll” feat Pimp C was produced by a Roc Nation producer. He put that fire on the track; it was amazing.
JA: If you can change one thing about the music industry what would it be and why?
ZEZ: I would change the price on promo and radio. Radio all over the world is hard to get on. Dj’s go with what they know is hot or what they’ve seen in blogs instead of giving a hot new song a chance.
JA: Are there any singers that you would like to collaborate with in the future?
ZEZ: I would like to work with Rihanna, Beyonce, Avant and Tyrese.
JA: What producer would you like to collaborate with in the future?
ZEZ: Someday soon I look forward to working with Timberland, Dre, Dj Khalid. Kanye West and DJ Mustard.
JA: What is your favorite movie and favorite book?
ZEZ: My favorite movie is Casino and my favorite books are the hood novels.
JA: What is your EP or album going to be like?
ZEZ: I’m trying to figure that out. I want to take the commercial songs off of it and keep it gangster. It will be street oriented.
