Thursday’s Maryland vs. Kansas live stream online and televised 2016 NCAA Sweet 16 game will feature the No. 5 seed taking on the No. 1 seed in the South Region several hours after the winner’s Elite Eight opponent will have been decided. In this particular battle, a Terrapins team that teetered on the brink of being the top team in the nation throughout the season, will take on a Jayhawks team that finished out the season strong and only had a total of four losses. Both teams won by at least a dozen points over their second round opponents, ousting the Connecticut Huskies and Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. Now Melo Trimble and his Maryland team will try to take down Perry Ellis and No. 1 Kansas. The 2016 NCAA live streaming and televised game action comes via March Madness Live and CBS.
On March 24, ESPN.com reported that Kansas is currently on a 16-game winning streak as they arrive to what could be the toughest matchup for any of the No. 1 seeds. Maryland has been playing a more uptempo style lately and seems to be more than capable of dethroning a giant like Kansas. Even though the Jayhawks made easy work of their first round opponents, and then held off an upset-minded Connecticut Huskies team who never got closer than nine points in the second half, Maryland has plenty of firepower and talent in its lineup. That includes Melo Trimble, Diamond Stone, Robert Carter and Jake Layman. Several analysts believe that Trimble and Stone will be the keys to an upset tonight though, via Trimble’s three-point shooting and Stone’s inside game.
Something that UCONN was unable to do against the No. 1 seeded Jayhawks was contain Perry Ellis or Wayne Selden Jr. The two players combined for 43 points in the 73-61 victory over the Huskies, with the two players grabbing a combined 15 rebounds as well. The Terrapins are tied for 30th when it comes to their defensive abilities and currently snatch 32.5 rebounds a game. They’ll need to do their best to keep up with the Jayhawks who average 10 more boards per game and put up at least 89 points on average per contest. If Maryland can hit outside shots, contest inside, grab rebounds and run with Kansas tonight they have a good shot at pulling off the upset. Easier said than done, right?
The Kansas Jayhawks enter this matchup as six point favorites on the spread. So far Kansas has gone 2-0 against the spread overall and as the favorite in the NCAA Tournament while Maryland is 1-1 overall. The moneyline has them priced as -250 favorites while the Terrapins are +210 underdogs. Tonight’s over/under points total is at 144 for the complete game. The future odds at Vegas Insider continue to list Kansas as the overall favorite to win the National Championship with current odds of 3 to 1, while Maryland is more of a longshot with 25 to 1 odds to win it all.
