A 35-year-old man in Springfield, Missouri, was arrested after he allegedly shot a Labrador retriever and then burned the dog’s body, reported Monday’s KY3 News. The man accused of the cruel crime has been identified as Nathan Bumgardner.
According to deputies, the situation took place last Thursday in the midst of an argument between Bumgardner and his now ex-girlfriend, over an accident that their dog, “Izzy,” had in their home’s basement. After the dog defecated inside, the woman told the authorities that Bumgardner stated that he would just “shoot and kill” the dog and he then proceeded to pick up a gun and shoot Izzy.
Bumgardner allegedly shot the dog several more times and then set her body on fire. According to the probable cause statement, “blood was observed throughout the residence indicating the dog was alive as it walked through the residence. I asked Nathan what he had done with the animal after killing it. Nathan led me into the backyard of the residence where he advised he started a fire and burned the Black Lab.
Bumgardner showed signs of being intoxicated and a test at the jail revealed that he was twice the legal limit of what is considered acceptable for driving. He was booked into jail on multiple charges, including animal cruelty, but he has already been released after posting bond.
