Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 with 239 people on board has been missing since March 8, 2014, and according to U.S. officials, plane debris found in Mozambique appears to be from a Boeing 777, the same kind that the doomed MH370 airplane was.
There is no other Boeing 777 missing other than Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, reports CNN on March 3. According to U.S. officials, the debris measures 35 inches by 22 inches and is a piece of horizontal stabilizer skin. After Monday’s report of the debris, it is now being sent to Australia for further analysis.
“There is a ‘high possibility’ that debris found in Mozambique is from a Boeing 777 jet of the type used to operate the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370,” Malaysia’s Transport Minister said.
According to Australian officials, “the location of the debris is consistent with some of the drift modeling.” Mozambique is a southern east coast African nation along the Indian Ocean. Its sandy beaches are popular to tourists.
The potential piece of the missing MH370 airplane was discovered over the weekend by American tourist Blaine Gibson. Gibson had chartered a boat and organized a trip in search of finding the missing plane. He and the owner of the charter boat found the plane part that had washed ashore on a sandbar in Mozambique.
Gibson, who is part of a group of private citizens using interpreted data in order to find MH370, said the following:
“It never occurred to me that I would find something like this here. It’s almost like a dream. I don’t know if it’s from 370 or another plane. Whatever it is, even if it’s not from 370, it raises awareness that people need to look for stuff on beaches.”
Even though Gibson says that “the chances are pretty slim that it’s the plane we are interested in,” he commented that after having met some of the family members of MH370 passengers, he understands the importance of any clues in regard to the fate of their loved ones. “These are real people with real pain. Anything that can bring answers, I want to help do.”
Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 family members have been through a rollercoaster ride during the past two years with no answers by Malaysian authorities in regard to what happened on Flight MH370. Even if the most recent discovery turns out to be not from MH370, just knowing that private people like Blaine Gibson are continuing to search for their loved ones is a glimmer of hope in an atmosphere of darkness, conspiracy and lies that has gripped the mysterious disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 – and the possibility that the missing plane MH370 will ever be found.
