It’s another weekend in Eugene. Once the lawn is mowed, the house is clean and the kids are taken care of, it’s time to get out and enjoy what Eugene has to offer this weekend.
If you enjoy music, Cartoon Spirits with Holler House is playing in the Hi-Fi Lounge April 29 at 9:00 pm. Adults will enjoy the first show since Cartoon Spirits released their new EP, “Crustacean EP”. The band, Cartoon Spirits is known for a rock and roll, power pop sound with a rythym and blues twist. The Holler House is playing at 9:30 for a good old rock and roll band, followed by Cartoon Spirits at 10:30. Must be 21. The Hi-Fi Music Hall is located at 44 East 7th Avenue, Eugene, Oregon. Friday opens the Cottage Grove Art Walk at 6 pm, located in downtown Cottage Grove. Walk along Main Street for artwork that captures “Oregon Beauty.” Other art walks will include Trash Art, Cottage Grove Art History, Hot August Nights, Budding Artists, Cultural Art and Fall into Art ends the art walk on the weekend of October 28. All walks are on the last Friday of each month until October.
Craig Sorseth and Friends rock the house with a “little bit of everything” tonight at 7 pm at Brewer’s Union Local 180 located at 48329 East 1st Street in Oakridge, Oregon. Admission is free.
DisOrient Asian American Film Festival is playing this weekend, starting Friday and running until Sunday at the Bijou from 6 to 11 pm on Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday. Admission for the festival is varying, depending on the program items available. The Bijou is located at 43 West Broadway in Eugene. The film festival is celebrating the 11th anniversary this weekend. DisOrient is a social justice film festival that works to destroy the media stereotypes of Asians and Asian Americans. At 6 pm, the festival kicks off with a welcoming ceremony. At 6:15, the film, Tyrus and Up in the Clouds for $15. An opening reception follows, with The Slants, an Asian American band closes the night. The admission for The Slants is an opening night film pass or the purchase of a VIP pass. Films and other celebratory events follow throughout the weekend.
Dylan Schmidt will be performing at the Black Forest, located at 50 East 11th Avenue in Eugene at 10 pm. Admission is free. Enjoy a night of reggae and and ska with Dylan Schmidt and the Rhythm Souls.
Relax to the songs of Esma Redzepova and Folk Masters at the Beall Concert Hall on Friday to start your weekend out right. Enjoy a concert of Romani (Gypsy) and Macadonian music. Esma Redzepova and the Folk Masters open at 7:30. Admission is $8 to $12. The Beall Concert Hall is located at 961 East 18th Avenue in Eugene.
Looking for something to do with the kids? Enjoy a night of swimming in the Aquatics Center at the YMCA. The Y is open for family fun with food, games and more. The swimming pool features an obstacle course for a change in the regular recreational swim. Best part of this event is that the whole family can enjoy a free night at the Y. The YMCA is located at 2055 Patterson Street, Eugene.
Kickstart your weekend with a night of jazz, blues and Motown at Mac’s at the Vets Club. The Motown Revue at Mac’s begins at $7 on Friday. Must be 21 years of age.
