Recently, we listened to a Hip-Hop song called Local, recorded by newcomer Mir Wavy, a 22-year-old lyricist from New Jersey. And we liked it. The song was produced by Bravestarr Beats, and features Desmond, a singer/producer who engineered the majority of the tracks off of Mir’s Let Me Know mixtape.
Through a mutual party, we interviewed Mir, and this is what he had to say.
Examiner: Please introduce yourself.
Mir Wavy: My name is Mir Wavy, and I am from South Jersey, a pace where it’s very active. Most people wouldn’t know that, but South Jersey is always awake. You just have to pay attention.
Examiner: How did your name originate?
MW: Max B became my favorite rapper back in 2008. I changed my name to Mir Wavy on MySpace and people started calling me that. Eventually, I embraced it as my identity.
Examiner: Who are some of your musical influences?
MW: Nas, 2Pac, Rakim, Wu-Tang Clan (esp. Method Man, Raekwon, and Ghostface Killa), Jadakiss, and others.
Examiner: Describe your sound.
MW: Classic but different. The perfect balance.
Examiner: How did you link up with Desmond?
MW: I knew him for years through middle and high school. And one day we linked up. I already had Local completed, and while recording me, Desmond heard me trying to get the melody down for the hook. So he offered his talents, and the rest is history.
Examiner: What’s the best advice you’ve ever gotten?
MW: Be yourself.
Examiner: Which artist would you like to work with in the near future?
MW: Nas, he’s my greatest influence.
Examiner: Years from now when people say Mir Wavy, what will they say?
MW: That man cared about us, and he always will.
Examiner: What five songs can’t you live without?
MW: The Notorious B.I.G. ft. Method Man, The What; Rakim, Microphone Fiend; 2Pac, Pain; Nas ft. AZ, Life’s A Bitch; and Max B, Bad Whiskey.
Examiner: What’s the best way for people to get in contact with you?
MW: I can be reached via Facebook @MirWavy, Instagram @badguybishop, Twitter @bishopcrill, or on SnapChat @bgbishop.
Examiner: Anything else you would like to say?
MW: You haven’t seen the last of me.
