What does healthy living mean?
According to Livestrong.com, the definition of healthy living is as follows: “a healthy lifestyle leaves you fit, energetic, and at a reduced risk for disease, based on your choices you make about your daily habits. Good nutrition, daily exercise and adequate sleep are the foundations for continuing good health. Managing stress in positive ways…reduces wear and tear on your body at the hormonal level.”
What is being accomplished daily to be healthy?
Being healthy is more important than ever! Many careers force individuals to sit at a desk for hours upon hours. Many people, being stressed, make poor food choices and tend to reach for coffee, soda, grease food, and carbs. When stressed, the quality of sleep is poor- so the body and brain are always tired. Instead of exercising, people make excuses about how busy of a schedule they have. All these excuses are unacceptable.
How does a person begin to be healthy daily?
Step by step. Start with one goal and then continue to the next goal. Healthy goals can look something like this:
• Eat more fruits, vegetables, and lean protein and less carbs
• Exercise 20-30 minutes a day (exercising can be incremental throughout the day)
• Sleep 6-8 hours a night
• Drink 8 glasses of water a day
• Plan on going outside everyday (soak up the Vitamin D from the sun)
• Take time in the day as personal time (5-20 minutes a day)
• Don’t stress over the small stuff!
• Cook and prepare meals for the week.
• Create family time where everyone can smile, have fun, and do a healthy activity together
All these are great ideas to becoming healthy.
But there is so much more to being healthy than just exercising, eating, sleeping, and reducing stress. There is also an element of personal success and achievement. If an individual is not happy and doesn’t have confidence, is it possible to be happy? Yes, it’s possible, but not likely.
The biggest success to being healthy is confidence and happiness. The more a person loves them self, the more they are apt to make all the right choices for their body and mind. Confidence guides an individual and doesn’t let other people put that individual down. Also, confidence means the person isn’t struggling with personal turmoil. That person can be emotionally stable through the good times and the bad. But it takes someone who loves them self to get through tough times. (Everyone has good and bad times in life.)
Know where to shop: organic food is always best
Know where to exercise: a local gym is always a great place to begin
Know a good support group: family, friends, and health clinics
Know what personal vital signs are: checking in with a doctor on an annual basis will show what cholesterol, blood pressure, and other health risks are at hand.
These are all steps to being healthy. And if ever looking for more information, the internet is a great place to research health. Or stop by a local library to rent various health books. It’s important to be “in the know” to stay ahead of all the possible health risks and complications.
