This week in Indianapolis is going to be full of fun and exciting live music events, with plenty to do for almost every type of music lover. From genres such as R&B and Heavy Metal, and even a couple of music festivals this weekend. There’s sure to be something to do for just about everyone.
One of the first live music events this week is Killswitch Engage with Memphis May Fire at the Old National Centre. Killswitch Engage is a heavy metal band on tour after the release of their new album “Incarnate” on March 11, 2016. You can buy tickets here.
There are two very cool R&B concerts happening on Thursday. At The Palladium Carmel, the 90’s R&B sensation Boyz II Men will be performing all of their famous hits. Boyz II Men are famous for songs such as “End of the Road”, “On Bended Knee”, and “I’ll Make Love to You”. Tickets for this show are almost sold out, so you should act fast if you want to attend. Popular R&B artist Tank will be at the Old National Centre on Thursday as well. Tank is on tour after the release of his new album “Sex, Love and Pain II”. You can buy tickets here.
On Friday, famous country artist Jamey Johnson will be at 8 Seconds Saloon. Jamey Johnson is famous for hits like “In Color” and “High Cost of Living”. You can find tickets here.
Friday also sets off the beginning of two very cool music festivals. The first is Shut Your Punk Ass Up Fest at the 5th Quarter Lounge. Shut Your Punk Ass Up Fest is a punk rock festival going on for 2 nights and a whole day Saturday. 30 bands are set to play, including Think Tank, The Elixirs, The Slappies, Black Cat Rebellion, Fastidio, Tiger Sex, Mama Moonshine and American Bombshell. Tickets are reasonably priced, with the option to purchase by each day or for the whole weekend. You can find more information here for day one and here for day two.
Fountain Square Music Festival begins Friday night and goes through the weekend as well. The best part of this festival is that not only will there be a main stage, but there will also be stages and venues holding events throughout Fountain Square. Andrew W.K., Ghost Gun Summer, Kimya Dawson, Thurston Moore Group, Surfer Blood and Kishi Bashi are among the artists set to play the main stage. You can buy wristbands for each individual day or for the whole weekend. There will also be a Girls Rock Family Day on Saturday, where you can bring the kids and participate in fun activities.
Some of the other stages include a jazz stage at the Thunderbird featuring Native Sun and Rob Dixon and Trilogy, a folk stage at the New Day Meadery presenting Dear Lincoln and Bigfoot Yancey, and a DJ stage headlining John Larner, DJ Gabby Love, DJ Fate, and DJ Topspeed. Kuma’s Corner will be opening a free metal stage on Saturday featuring Zero Boys, Drude, Bulletwolf and Potslammer.
The Hoosier Dome will be having all ages shows presenting Brother O’ Brother, Rebuild and Rebound, and the anna sage. album release. The Fountain Square Brewery will be hosting a free show with both a main stage and an acoustic stage. Some of the headliners for the main stage include Tracksuit Lyfestile, Coup D’eTat, and Moxxie. Ryan M. Brewer, Stay Outside, and Sale Joseph will be some of the headliners on the acoustic stage.
There will also be a few after parties for the festival. The Hi-fi will have Night Train on Friday and Party Lines and John Stamps on Saturday. The State Street Pub will be hosting a few artists including Gypsy_Moonshine and Scary Drugs on Friday and Dirtbike and Beat Awfuls on Saturday. The White Rabbit Cabaret will have an after party on Saturday featuring A-Squared Djs and Action Jackson.
There will also be several other activities going on in addition to music, including a Live Recording Session for VIP members at Joyful Noise. The recording sessions will give VIP members a more personal performance from some of the main stage artists. There will also be an artist panel presented by Nuvo, where specific topics will be discussed with local artists and musicians. Other events happening this week include Here Come the Mummies at The Bluebird in Bloomington on Friday, information here. On Saturday, The Melody Inn will be having their Punk Rock Night Psychobilly Night featuring Gutter Demons, The Quaranteds, The Loveless and St. Pickle, information here. Also on Saturday, Recoil will be at Southport Bar and Grill. Recoil is a hard rock cover band, and you can find information on the event here.
