On January 18, 2018 the world lost one of the most popular performing singer-songwriters in American history. As first reported by the Rolling Stone and then by official statement on the Eagles website, we were informed that Glenn Frey had passed away. Frey was the creator of the band The Eagles and in many ways the glue that held the band together for many years.
Frey passed away in New York after battling rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia. He was only 67 years old. While America began mourning this music man, many artists whom he had shared the stage with him began posting their heartfelt condolences and memories of Glenn Frey. Frey also did some acting in his lifetime and made some guest appearances on ‘Miami Vice,’ ‘Wiseguy,’ ‘South of Sunset’ and ‘Nash Bridges.’ He also had small parts on the big screen in movies such as ‘Let’s Get Harry’ and ‘Jerry Maguire.’
Examiner had a chance to speak briefly with Wayne Nelson, lead singer and band leader of the iconic Little River Band and Mr. Nelson had this to say:
“I had the honor and pleasure of touring Australia with Glenn. He joined forces with LRB for two weeks, ending with a live TV special at Expo ’88 in Brisbane with about 110,000 people attending. After years of being a fan, it was such an awesome experience to blend LRB and Eagles hits together. He shocked all of us when he dropped the comment that LRB was “the best singing band in the world.” A huge compliment coming from such a star. Glenn was a consummate writer, singer, and performer. I’ll never forget working with him. The music world lost a giant today…and the planet lost a good man. “
The Little River Band posted this on their Facebook page: ”A sad day when any great artist passes…but the death of Glenn Frey hits very close to home. LRB had the honor and pleasure of hosting Glenn for a two-week tour of Australia, finishing with a concert at Expo ’88 in Brisbane. We were his backing band, and we blended many of our songs with his and some of The Eagles’ hits. He shocked all of us with his comment about LRB being the “greatest singing band in the world”. A great writer and performer, Glenn will be missed by the world of music.”
The world continues to mourn the passing of such a talented and creative soul. He will be missed.
