Please don’t turn away because the SKROSS BUZZ 2 in 1 Micro USB & Lightning Connector is a USB cable. For sure SKROSS is not the only company to make a USB cable that can work with both Apple devices (i.e., phones/tablets) and Android-based devices. Take a look and you’ll see the BUZZ has a standard, full sized USB connector on one end and a micro-USB on the other, plus also a Lightning connector adapter that fits onto that just mentioned micro-USB. So what we have here is a USB cable that can be used with Apple and Android devices, right? No big deal. Certainly it doesn’t sound so amazing because of that. Or worth paying around $40 retail for. But anyone thinking this hasn’t taken a closer look at the name BUZZ, which indicates a noise. Or in this case an alarm because this USB cable has the ability to sound off as a reminder to remember to pack it away and take it with you. It won’t let you forget it.
Now who hasn’t forgotten their USB cable one time or another? Or left it at home when it should have been tossed in the car or used and forgotten during packing in a hotel room to beat a hasty retreat and make that flight? Or any of a number of other things that resulted in having to either buy yet another USB cable or scratch one’s head in dismay at not wanting to do so when there’s at least 3 sitting on the desk at home. Had the BUZZ been the one used, this couldn’t have happened, at least not easily. That’s because this USB cable exists to do two things; the first being to facilitate power and data going to/from the mobile device, and the second being to remind you in no uncertain terms that it had better not be ignored. So every time the BUZZ is used, the built-in alarm receives power to its internal siren. This siren then sounds off (loud enough but not so loud as to cause a headache) when it is disconnected. There’s even a “Snooze” button if you want to call it that — it delays the siren from sounding off for a bit. Additionally the BUZZ can act as a sort of theft alarm — obviously not very useful if you’re not around, but definitely useful if one has the phone charging on a table at a Starbucks or such and decides to jump up and grab a napkin while holding onto the belief in the inherent goodness of humanity. But mostly it’s to be annoying to the point that you don’t leave it (at least not unintentionally).
Now for this USB cable to be efficient it must work the same as any Apple certified Lightning connector cable. Fortunately that is the case here — unlike some adapter-based cables that also have a Lightning connector tab going onto the micro-USB one), the BUZZ allows not just for the transfer of power but also for the transfer of data. That makes good sense if it’s going to be used, because otherwise there’ll be the time when a syncing is needed, it’s the only cable there, and the anger will rise.
SKROSS’ BUZZ 2 in 1 Micro USB & Lightning Connector is 1 meter/39” long and manages not to look stubby or all that strange to the eye. But the real value is in what it does — making sure that you don’t leave it behind. That’s a real plus in today’s mobile age.
