Laurie Smith-Tornerup, the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Advocates United for Humanity has been named Advocate of the Year, Canada by her peers. This award is given to women who are making significant contributions of strength and courage to their community through volunteerism.
Smith-Tornerup said, “we must continue to speak out and not be silent about the issue of child abuse and all human right’s abuses, children are dying and people are suffering and when the world chooses to close their eyes and ignore the horrific situations going on, it just gets slipped back under the carpet, out of sight and out of mind! We cannot let this happen! We have voices, let’s continue to use them!”
Laurie Smith -Tornerup is a child advocate and writer who seeks truth and justice against those who abuse children. She speaks the truth, writes the truth and keeps true to her mission to stop child abuse and all forms of human rights abuses.
Her mission is and has always been to raise public awareness to end child abuse. She has spent countless hours writing books, hosting internet radio shows and public speaking to end these injustices in the world.
Smith-Tornerup said, “My passion is Child Abuse Prevention and raising awareness about the ongoing issues of child abuse, domestic violence and all human rights abuses. I feel that it is going to take all of our voices to make positive change in the world we live in, and to create a better world for all of us now and a better future for the generations to come. My goal is to be “one more voice” for the voiceless and raise awareness, speaking out against child abuse and all human rights abuses for all those victims whose voices were silenced.”
She added, “I have written and published three books; all of them the truth of growing up abused in every way, and the consequent damage done to my whole self, mind, body and spirit. I write books, blogs, articles, and speak publicly on internet radio regarding the issues surrounding child abuse and domestic violence and I also share information regarding adult survivor issues.
Statistics state one in three people will experience some form of abuse in their lifetime, and sadly, this number continues to grow.
Advocates United for Humanity provides vital resources for those affected by abuse. their mission is to enhance quality of life for those affected by violence. We lead positive social change and deliver value to our members through resources, services and networking.
