Once upon a time, the Hatboro Horsham Lady Hatters couldn’t get in the win column. During the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 seasons, the Lady Hatters were a combined 0-128. Katie McLendon had been the anchor of those Hatboro-Horsham teams and each Lady Hatter struggled to roll at least 125 a game.
Now, Lauren Klein serves as Hatboro-Horsham’s anchor. She posted a 268 game and 600 series in a 4-0 loss to visiting North Penn on Dec. 9 at Thunderbird Lanes in Willow Grove.
In Suburban One Continental/American action on Dec. 14, the Lady Hatters defeated the host Plymouth Whitemarsh Lady Colonials, 3-1 (736-633, 721-656, 632-652= 2,089-1,941), at Facenda Whitaker Lanes in East Norriton. Klein paced the Lady Hatters with a 189 game and 505 series. Hatboro-Horsham four-hole Erin Cass totaled 432 with a 166 game.
PW anchor Francesca Schoettle-Colelli led all bowlers with a 201 game (second set) and 508 series. In her last outing (a 4-0 PW win against nonleague opponent Council Rock South on Dec. 10), Schoettle-Colelli set a team record for highest series with 669. Jamie Pugielli recorded a 668 series in Jan. 2013.
The Lady Colonials couldn’t keep up with Hatboro-Horsham due to not finding their marks. During the fifth frame of the first game, PW head coach Jeff Blizzard ordered an immediate conference with his bowlers. He needed to reiterate the importance of proper positioning and making adjustments.
Inconsistencies also damaged PW’s chances of victory. Marissa McBride had 146 and 150 games but rolled 98 in between. Celia Curry notched 150 in the second game but 110 and 101 in the other sets.
Jordan Heaton, PW’s two-hole bowler, collected 130 and 88. Heaton had been sent to Junior Varsity after the second game and was replaced by Samantha Leeds. Leeds knocked down 118 in the Lady Colonials’ third-set win.
The Lady Colonials were 8-0 against Hatboro-Horsham during the 2014-2015 season. Klein was the Lady Hatters’ lone representative in the Eastern Pa. individual regional tournament and pulled out after rolling 70 in the first of five games.
PW returns to Facenda Whitaker on Dec. 16 to face conference foe Upper Moreland. It will be the Lady Colonials’ picture day.
