Kristhielee Caride, Puerto Rico’s 2016 Miss Universe, was stripped of her crown, but while many might assume that the dethroning of the beauty queen just four months after her big win is due to some unethical actions, the reason is actually quite unbelievable – Puerto Rico’s Miss Universe 2016 does not like the cameras.
So how did Kristhielee Caride become Puerto Rico’s Miss Universe 2016? As Univision, the American Spanish language broadcast television network reports on March 18, Caride was stripped of her crown because she had an attitude problem and was misbehaving during an interview with the local press.
After the interview, which went viral on social media, Caride had just one thing to say. “I just do not like cameras.”
Watching the YouTube Interview of Caride with the local press shows, even if one doesn’t understand the language, that Puerto Rico’s Miss Universe is not rude or anything, but she is definitely not comfortable in front of the camera.
Desiree Lowry, the director of Miss Universe Puerto Rico, announced the decision to strip Caride of her crown during a press conference on Thursday, March 17. As the reason, Lowry said that Caride “had attitude problems” and that “she did not fulfill her commitments as Puerto Rico’s Miss Universe.”
After Thursday’s decision to dethrone Kristhielee Caride, Puerto Rico’s former Miss Universe 2016 wrote the following on her Facebook page:
“Beauty queens are not exempt from having a bad day. I allowed my feelings to get in the way of my work. I would like to express my most sincere apologies to each and every one of my fans first of all those who have supported me from the first moment, to my work team and the organization of miss universe Puerto Rico. It was never my intention to make you feel bad, hurting or damaging the image of those who have helped me to be where I am today. It is human to err, it is also courageous to recognize our errors and I want to continue being an example of a real woman with purpose that maintains their head held high before all adversity that happens in life. I will always remember that night of November 12 when I won the title, and all the experiences and lovely memories of having been Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2016.”
While some of Caride’s words might get lost in translation, her life story – as some serious Facebook responses point out — is not. On Christmas Day, Caride had been kidnapped with her mother and sister and lost her family home.
The news of Kristhielee Caride stripped of her Miss Universe 2016 crown resulted in compassionate responses under the beauty queen’s Facebook post. However, under the YouTube video, viewers were less understanding: “Es hermosa pero tiene un cerebro de niña (She is beautiful but has the brain of a little girl) is the most common response by many viewers.
On a more humorous note, one English commentator in regard to Kristhielee Caride Miss Universe 2016 crown scandal writes that ” I got fired from my lifeguard job because I told them I don’t like the water.”
