Grammy award-winning gospel musician, choir director and author Kirk Franklin, delivered his 20 Years in One Night (TYION) tour, in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee at the historic newly renovated Ryman Auditorium.
Motown Gospel artist Janice Gaines set the tone for the night offering her beautiful voice as the opening act and sharing her new music.
Kirk hit the stage rocking a red, black and white stylish jacket with white/black pants and black boots. He captured his audience immediately with his great moves and stage presence. The show offered true showmanship under the direction of Kirk as he sang, lead his backup singers and band, shared his personal testimony and played the piano.
“This was a great show and I needed this. He took us to church with his music,” said fan Sharon Means.
It was definitely a Tuesday night to remember as Kirk performed in front of a packed house of fans including Nashville’s own Bobby Jones, Presiding Bishop of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Joseph Warren Walker III and First Lady Dr. Stephanie Walker. (There were even kids in attendance with their parents.)
It was like watching an energizer bunny who just keeps going and going. Kirk took the time to thank his fans for coming out to support his show on a Tuesday night and shared he didn’t take it for granted. He even came out into the crowd, took selfies while performing on stage with a couple of fans and asked a fan for some popcorn during intermission.
The music set list covered a wide array from his latest project Losing My Religion and took us back to the old school Kirk with The Rebirth of Kirk Franklin. A great moment during the show was when Kirk dedicated his popular track “I Am Here” to Brussels, Paris, and Flint while the crowd waved the light from their phones in unity.
The highlights of the concert would have to be Kirk’s high energy level, sense of humor, interaction with his fans , humility and special ministry called World Vision which aims at giving back to children who are less fortunate.
Overall, the TYION tour is a definite must-see concert you will want to check out in your city. Kirk definitely provided a great show with a L-I-V-E experience and he is a comedian. Be sure to bring your tissues and smiles!
