The British dark comedy/thriller “Kill Your Friends” starts at Cinema Detroit Friday.
Based on the novel by John Niven, the film takes us back to 1997, when the musical phenomenon known as Britpop is at its zenith. Blur, Oasis, and The Verve were just a few of the bands making names for themselves.
Twenty-seven-year-old A&R man Steven Stelfox (Nicholas Hoult) is slashing and burning his way through London’s music industry. Blithely crisscrossing the globe in search of the next megahit — fueled by greed and inhuman quantities of drugs and alcohol — Stelfox freely indulges in an unending orgy of self-gratification. But the industry is changing fast, the hits are drying up, and the only way he’s going to salvage his sagging career is by taking the idea of “cutthroat” to murderous new levels. “Kill Your Friends” also stars Rosanna Arquette, James Corden and Georgia King, and includes a stellar soundtrack featuring Blur, Oasis, Radiohead, Prodigy and The Chemical Brothers.
“Kill Your Friends” starts Friday, April 1. Show times and tickets are available at the theatre’s website.
