Kevin Payne was rendered a helpless father as a TSA agent patted down his daughter in what felt incredibly uncomfortable and humiliating to this 10-year-old girl. Payne made a video clip of the pat-down, which was done by a female agent and took about two minutes.
According to Sports Act on January 7, the angry father couldn’t do anything as his daughter was subjected to this body pat-down. Vendela Payne was pulled out of line for the pat-down after a juice box found in his daughter’s purse and a false positive for explosives put the TSA in alert mode, which it should.
MSN News reports today that Payne said he is all for the security in the airports, but this is a 10-year-old girl. He said, “The whole system seems to not work the way it should be working.”
The video was posted online by the irate dad and it has gone viral today as the father is planning to file a complaint. While the dad videoed his daughter’s search, so did the TSA, as they do with everyone that walks through. The powers who be at the head office said, “The process by which the child was patted down followed approved procedures.
Vendela said of the TSA pat-down, “They just kept doing it over and over. I felt very uncomfortable. I felt like screaming.” This just wasn’t the Payne family’s day as the TSA said a cellphone in the Vendela’s purse required “additional resolution procedures.”
Payne said, “I thought it was incredibly inappropriate, very invasive and it really violated my daughter.” This pat-down happened at Raleigh-Durham International Airport in North Carolina on Dec. 30, 2015.
While it sounds as if this was an horrendous embarrassment for the 10-year-old, one can’t help wonder why the angry dad would perpetuate that embarrassment and post this online for everyone to see. It is not as if this is an anonymous video, both Mr. Payne and his daughter are identified.
This is a 10-year-old girl with 10-year-old school friends and this is the age where kids tease and taunt each other. Did posting this video online just open a can of worms for more embarrassment to come his daughter’s way?
There’s not many people, no matter what age, that are comfortable getting patted-down by a stranger. With all the things going on in the world today, folks need to start embracing the safety measures instead of bashing them. They also need to swallow that embarrassment and look at the bigger picture.
Kids traveling through airports today should be fully aware that random pat-downs occur and like it or not, it is an unfortunate side effect of modern-day travels. Parents should make sure they understand that this is a possibility and that it can happen to anyone. They are better off being prepared for the possibility of a pat-down then to have it be a surprise if this does happen.
