The fashion industry is vying to get Kendall Jenner as the face for their individual lines as she’s got a huge following in the social media world along with her good looks. So when the Spanish fashion house Mango landed Kendall for their 2016 “Tribal” collection, it was thought to be a home run.
According to E Online on January 15, that thought started to sour when the backlash came fast and furious over their choice of Kendell instead of a person of color. The line is celebrating the “tribal spirit” of the African Savannah and seeing Kendall as the face to convey this spirit has peeved off a lot of folks.
Social media sites are saturated with messages condemning the choice of Kendall Jenner for this campaign. Candice Swanepoel writes: “Lol at Mango’s new collection being called Tribal spirit. Lol at Kendall Jenner being the face of that collection.”
As E Online suggests, the criticism shouldn’t be directed at Kendall, all she did was show up for a gig and look her best in some clothes picked out for her to wear. She had nothing to do with the plans of this campaign.
Contact Music suggests Kendall Jenner has arrived “following in the footsteps of Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne by becoming the face of Spanish high-street brand Mango.” Unlike Moss an Delevingne, Kendall is facing outrage and major backlash for her ads.
Apparently people have probed a little deeper into this line of clothes and they’ve also found another politically incorrect aspect of the name. According to E Online, “the entirety of the collection itself could be considered controversial. Saying the collection gains inspiration from the African Savannah seems to limit the masses of tribes across the desert under one stereotypical umbrella, despite the heavy cultural differences among them.”
Does anyone remember when this politically correct movement became so tightly wrapped? There seems to be an insult around every corner when you offer something that’s more than just the ordinary or generic? Soon things will all have to be numbered because critics will find fault in most everything else.
How about Kendall Jenner in a mask wearing the 12345 collection! People couldn’t possibly find fault with this mundane presentation! You would probably have to skip the mask, it would be just another thing for people to tag with a sublime message. It would have to be a generic paper bag! Poor Kendall, she looks beautiful in Mango’s “Tribal” line.
