Even though Kelly Ripa might feel like turning her back to “Life with Kelly and Michael” after Michael Strahan blindsided her, can she actually afford to do so? Apparently, ABC is not worried about the TV talk show host leaving because despite Ripa’s net worth of $100 million and an annual salary of about $15 million a year, Ripa’s lifestyle will prevent her from quitting her job.
TMZ’s latest report on this week’s shocker that Michael Strahan dumped Kelly Ripa for a gig on “Good Morning America” is taking a look at the sweetheart’s spending habits. As one source told the celebrity news website, “She makes a lot of money, but she spends a lot of money, and so does he.”
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Ripa’s annual salary in addition to her already $100 million net worth is closer to $20 million if one takes into account other gigs that she participates in. Of course, Kelly has worked hard for her money including her role as Hayley Vaughn Santos on the ABC soap opera “All My Children” (1990 to 2002), her sitcom “Hope and Faith,” co-hosting the morning talk show “Live with Regis and Kelly,” and other numerous television shows and movies.
Kelly Ripa’s husband, 45-year-old Mark Consuelos, isn’t quite as rich as his wife. Consuelos’ net worth is reportedly only $40 million. The couple co-starred on “All My Children” and married in 1996. After leaving the show in 2010, the Spanish-born actor continued to guest star or perform in recurring roles in numerous television shows, but 45-year-old Kelly still remains to be the higher breadwinner in the family.
When Kelly learned for the first time on Tuesday April 19 that her co-host since 2011 was leaving the show and heading to “Good Morning America” in September, she was angry not only at Strahan for not giving her a warning, but Ripa was also furious at the show’s producer, Michael Gelman. Understandably, Kelly did not show up for work on Wednesday and it is still uncertain whether she will be back by next Tuesday.
Despite being angry about losing retired NFL player Michael Strahan as co-host on “Live with Kelly and Michael,” Ripa’s and her husband’s lifestyle might require to put all personal feelings aside. In addition to having purchased a townhouse on New York City’s Upper East Side a year ago, Kelly and Mark own a mansion in The Hamptons.
According to TMZ, Kelly Ripa is considering leaving “Live With Kelly and Michael” completely. However, the career move might be impossible for financial reasons. Sources connected to ‘Live’ comment that Kelly Ripa won’t be leaving the show because she “needs her sizable paycheck in order to maintain her family’s lavish lifestyle.”
