After more than five years in Historic Downtown Hilo, Hawaii, KapohoKine Adventures is moving its flagship store to the main lobby of the newly-refurbished Grand Naniloa Hilo, a DoubleTree by Hilton, as part of the $18.5 million renovation of the iconic Hilo NaniloaHotel and Golf Club. KapohoKine Adventures, a leading tour operator on Hawaii Island, has signed as the exclusive activity agent for the new hotel.
As the exclusive activity agent for Grand Naniloa Hilo, KapohoKine Adventures will sell its own eco-focused adventure tours, ziplining at Zipline Through Paradise and activities by outside vendors in partnership with Hawaii Performance Partners. The store will be featured prominently in the main lobby to assist both hotel guests and passersby looking for advice and booking assistance. KapohoKine Adventures expects to start offering its activities at the hotel on April 1.
“We are thrilled to have been asked by Grand Naniloa Hilo to be part of its new venture on Banyan Drive,” said Tony DeLellis, owner of KapohoKine Adventures. “We have spent 12 years building a solid base of adventure tours that incorporate Hawaii Island’s natural environment and host culture, so having the opportunity to educate a much larger number of visitors about the importance and value of sustainable tourism is exciting.”
DeLellis said KapohoKine Adventures will continue to operate its current adventure tours, along with a suite of specialty tours designed with the hotel’s guests in mind. It will also continue to operate its baseyards in Pepeekeo and Kona for overall marketing and management of the company’s tours, as well as its education facility for guide training and annual recertification programs.
The majority of KapohoKine Adventures’ tour vehicles will also be split between the baseyards including its recently acquired fleet of fuel-efficient 2015 and 2016 Ford Transit Vans.
KapohoKine Adventures on Hawaii Island conducts expeditions in the surrounding areas of Kona, Hilo and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park by Wilderness First Aid and Park Service certified guides. Tours are conducted in a new fleet of fuel efficient 2015 and 2016 Ford Transit Vans. Zipline tours are operated through partners at Zipline Through Paradise, which features the longest riding tandem line on the island. KapohoKine Adventures is dedicated to using sustainable tourism to preserve and protect open space and legacy farm holdings.
For 2016, KapohoKine Adventures is one of only seven tour operators on Hawaii Island to receive Sustainable Tourism Certification by the Hawaii Ecotourism Association.
