Anthony “Rumble” Johnson (21-5) made his case for the next shot at the UFC light heavyweight championship when he knocked out Ryan “Darth” Bader (20-10) at 1:26 of the first round in Saturday night’s “UFC on FOX Fight Night” main event. Johnson earned a Performance of the Night bonus for the quick finish.
“How you all like my jiu-jitsu now?” asked Johnson. “People can always say whatever they want to say about me. I’m always training hard, I’m always going to do my best, I’m always going to come out here and perform at the best of my ability.”
Johnson awaits the result of the next title fight between Daniel Cormier and Jon “Bones” Jones. Cormier won the vacated light heavyweight title over Johnson on May 23, 2015.
In the co-feature, “Big” Ben Rothwell (36-9) caused former heavyweight champ Josh “The Warmaster” Barnett (34-8) to tap to a gogo choke at 3:48 of the second round. It was Rothwell’s second consecutive victory using that submission, which also got him the evening’s other Performance of the Night award. Barnett drops to 2-2 since returning to the UFC.
