Jodie Sweetin has come a long way over the years from being a young girl on “Full House” until now, all grown up and on the spin-off series, “Fuller House.” She allegedly has a dark past of alcohol, cocaine, and crystal meth and not just a bit, but a lot, according to Radar Online, March 30, 2016.
However, the month of March gives Jodie Sweetin a reason to celebrate life and to realize just how far she has come since those dark secret days. It marks the fifth anniversary of her sobriety although she said the day she stopped drinking was December 8, 2008.
Jodie told Us Weekly that she learned many things during that time. “We all have our demons. When we finally learn to let them go, we get to live and be free. I’ve got everything I could want.”
It does seem like Jodie has a life full of blessings, namely two beautiful healthy daughters and a man who loves her unconditionally. From a previous marriage to Cody Herpin, she has a 7-year-old daughter Zoie, and from another previous marriage to Morty Coyle, she has 5-year-old Beatrix.
“I look back at things that have happened in the past, and I look at where I’m now, and it’s crazy. If anything, my life is a lesson to never give up.”
Everyone thought Jodie Sweetin should be like her character on “Full House,” young, innocent Stephanie Tanner. No one would have thought that in reality, Jodie was drinking and later would move on to extasy and heavier drugs. she said that drugs were easier for her to hide from the public, then if she had been drinking.
“Those things I never thought I would do, I did. I was living a double life.”
She is engaged to Justin Hodak whom she started dating in 2014 after she had been clean and sober for a couple years. Justin is also a single parent of 16-year-old Tatum. Jodie confesses that Justin knows her better than any of her previous partners ever had because he has gone through some of the same experiences that she has. He is also recovering addict who has been clean and sober for 11 years.
Justin Hodak is a writer and producer and the two of them met through mutual friends. Their relationship is strong and Jodie isn’t afraid to try another relationship. Perhaps, now that Jodie entered this relationship clean and sober, she will have clarification on the goodness of Justin. Her relationship will not be based on her perception of him while she is strung out on drugs or alcohol.
“He’s so different and, really importantly, I’m different. I haven’t always had the best luck in relationships, and I’ve learned a lot of lessons. I want to be married. I don’t think there’s anything wrong admitting that it didn’t work before and trying again.”
Jodie Sweetin credits Justin Hodak with helping her to stay away from drugs and drinking. “We turn to each other for support. We both have our own lives and things we’re excited about, but we combine that, where we have this great relationship.”
In her memoir, Jodie wrote about her drug usage and some life threatening instances that stand out in her mind, telling her that she had a problem. Jodie remembered one day in early 2007 when she was so high on drugs that friends rushed her to the emergency room. In looking back, she believes that her friends probably saved her life that time.
She then checked into Promises Treatment Centers in Malibu to get help for her addictions. She said rehab did help her and that it got her speaking jobs so she could make money to buy more drugs. She had not arrived at the place where she could make a clean break of the addictions she craved.
Jodie Sweetin stopped using drugs and stayed sober while she was pregnant with Zoie, but she a few months after Zoie’s birth in 2008, Jodie slipped back into her old habits.
“I had two glasses of wine and drove with (Zoie) in the car, I not only put myself in danger but also my daughter, who I loved more than anything. I felt terrible.”
Her actions and her admittance of driving while under the influence with her daughter Zoie in the car, caused Jody Sweetin to be investigated by child services.
Jodie Sweetin is busy with the filming of “Fuller House” and “Dancing With the Stars.” After Miley Cyrus made fun of Jodie by posting a picture of her in her drug filled days, Miley was slammed for her actions. Jodie discovered her fans stood up for her and cautioned Miley to stop posting those kinds of pictures, especially when Jodie has made such a dramatic change in her life.
