Foodies from across the street and across the country prepared for battle last night and it was a variable trip to heaven for the taste-buds. The battle royale of Burgers was back in full swing with South Florida Burger Bash, presented by Schweid & Sons and hosted by Rachael Ray, at the Food Network & Cooking Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival presented by FOOD & WINE, hosting leading chefs and thousands of hungry fans as they collectively gathered to honor the versatility of a culinary favorite, the ubiquitous hamburger. In the end, Jersey Dawg’s classic Jersey slider reigned supreme taking home the Schweid & Sons Very Best Burger Award.
Led by Jamie Schweid, President of Schweid & Sons and passionate burger enthusiast, the A-list line-up of discerning and hungry judges included: David Burtka, actor, chef and host of Cooking Channel’s Celebrity Dish; Neil Patrick Harris, award-winning actor and host; Natalie Morales, news anchor and third-hour co-host of NBC News’ TODAY; George Motz, author of “The Great American Burger Book” and the host of Travel Channel’s “Burger Land;” Mike & Alicia Piazza, 12-time All-Star MLB player; along with current writer for Haute Living magazine, serving as the travel ambassador for the magazine for the last three years and Marcus Samuelsson, celebrity chef and judge on Food Network’s Chopped.
“It’s great to be here in Miami and part of this prestigious event for its 10th birthday. However, it was very difficult to determine one winning burger when there is such an extraordinary amount of culinary talent present!” says Schweid.
