Jared Fogle was a victim of a prison fight when he was attacked by another inmate at a Colorado prison that left him bloodied and beaten. The disgraced Fogle, who has the face famous for advertising Subway sandwiches, was beaten to a bloody mess by a 60-year-old prison inmate with a violent history that dates back to the ‘70s.
The Christian Science Monitor reports on March 16, that Steven J. Nigg, known as Nigg to his fellow inmates, pushed Fogle to the ground then let go a barrage of punches to the former Subway spokesperson’s face. Fogle is serving 15-years and 8-months for traveling across state lines for commercial sex with a minor along with possession and distribution of child pornography.
It is no secret that anyone who is in prison for anything that has to do with child sex has a target on their back. While the prisons are filled with all sorts of killers, rapists and robbers, there is an unwritten code about those who do things to children and if Fogle is in the general population of the prison system, he is probably lucky to have made it this long without a beating. Nigg is currently serving time for gun charges, but he did quite a few years in the past for armed robbery.
It was last August when Fogle plead guilty to the charges of having sex with a minor and receiving child porn in a plea agreement. While the type of crimes that Fogle is jailed for already gives him a reason to be disliked among the other prisoners, the fact that he is famous is also a problem. It seems that prison systems have a problem keeping high-profile prisoners save, suggests the Christian Science Monitor today.
Robert Hood, who was the previous warden of America’s notorious “Supermax” prison in Florence, Colo., wrote for Corrections One, which is an online resource for corrections officers. Back in 2011 he wrote, “Regardless of any positive behavior by high-profile inmates, placing them in an open setting (around other inmates) is a major concern to correctional administrators.”
According to Fox News the fight happened in the prison yard at Colorado’s Englewood FCI, where Fogle is currently doing his time. Nigg unleashed his anger in punches “after reaching his boiling point over the number of child sex predators housed in the low-security facility,” reports TMZ via Fox News. The 60-year-old Nig received a small cut on is hand in the fight and then placed in solitary confinement due to this incident.
This incident happened back in January , but it was recently revealed that this beating occurred. Fogle suffered a bloody nose scratches to his face, some swelling and bruises from reports. By now Fogle’s face must be cleared up, but maybe his pride is still carrying the scars?
