If you are a sports and fitness enthusiast, here is your chance to indulge in your passions at the 28th annual Arnold Sports Festival, the largest multi-sport festival in the country being held on Thursday, March 3 through Sunday, March 6 at various venues in downtown Columbus, Ohio. It is approximately a 2 hour drive from Cleveland.
Co-produced by actor and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, this multi-day event will feature more than 18,000 athletes from 80 countries competing in 70 sports and events including 14 sports featured in the Olympics. Last year more than 175,000 people attended this event.
Among the vast range of sports included at the Festival are mens’ and women’s amateur bodybuilding, gymnastics, martial arts, fencing, archery, cheerleading, dance, boxing, jump rope, rowing, power lifting, table tennis, armwrestling, strongman (both amateur and professional) in addition to swimming, tennis, pole fitness and wrestling.
Part of the Festival will be the 2016 Arnold Fitness EXPO being held at the main hall of the Greater Columbus Convention Center located at 400 North Hight Street. The EXPO will feature over 900 booths offering the latest sports equipment, apparel and nutrition information. The EXPO stage will host many of the Festival’s athletic competitions.
The Arnold Sports Festival will also feature the Arnold Sportsworld Kids & Teen EXPO on March 5 & 6 in the Brickner Building of the Ohio Expo Center offering sports demonstration areas, individual skill development clinics, vendor booths and activities and performances including Jedi fencing, balancing and juggling by Brad Weston, world jump rope, a cooking caravan by Fresh Tyme Market and performances by Opera Columbus, Scottish Highland dancers, a Scottish pipe band, Irish dancing and the Arnold Quest for Talent competition.
Arnold Schwarzenegger will be making an appearance at the Arnold Sunday Showcase (on March 6) being held at the Hilton Columbus Downtown Hotel from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. This year’s Festival will also feature the 7th annual Art at the Arnold competition showcasing artwork that portrays athletes and sports action. Prizes will be awarded. And don’t miss seeing the WWE Experience showcasing superstars of the WWE wrestling with live matches, autograph signings and Q & A sessions.
New this year at the Arnold Sports Festival will be Pro Wheelchair Bodybuilding, the Baton Twirling Championships and the Taekwondo State Championships.
EXPO tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Children 14 and under are free when accompanied by an adult. Admission gives visitors total access to the Arnold Fitness EXPO. Advance tickets can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com. Important Note: There will be additional charges for several of the competitions. No strollers allowed.
Hours for the EXPO are 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Sunday. Parking is available at various lots in downtown Columbus. Visitors will be able to catch a free Arnold Shuttle Bus at a variety of locations which will take them to most of the Festival’s venues.
