You don’t have to have a drop of Polish blood in your body to enjoy the party-atmosphere activities of the 6th annual Cleveland Dyngus Day celebration being held on Monday, March 28 at various venues in the Cleveland area.
A Bit About Dyngus Day Celebrated for hundreds of years on Easter Monday in Poland and other Eastern European countries, Dyngus Day marks the end of the Easter and Lenten seasons and is typically celebrated with live Polish music, the drinking of beer and lots and lots of Polish cuisine.
Taking place in the Detroit Shoreway, Tremont, Hingetown and Ohio City neighborhoods, the Cleveland Dyngus Day celebration is being presented by the National Cleveland-style Polka Hall of Fame which has partnered with merchants, bars and restaurants to provide a full day of celebration for visitors. Last year nearly 25,000 people attended the Cleveland Dyngus Day festivities.
Attendees will be able to find a wide variety of Polish beer and cuisine for purchase at various venues and restaurants including Spice, XYZ Tavern, The Happy Dog, Luxe Kitchen and Bar, The Harp, Toast Wine Bar, Parkview, Zone Car Lounge, Tremont Taphouse, Great Lakes Brewing Company and Sterle’s Country Home and Rudy’s Bakery, just to name a few. Rocking’ Cleveland shuttle service will be available to take visitors to the various venues. The shuttle stops will be marked by red & white balloons.
One of the main venues of this event will be Kishka’s Beer Heaven and entertainment tent located on the SE corner of West 58th & Detroit Ave. in the Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood. Live entertainment at Kishka’s Beer Heaven will include lots of polka bands in addition to other musical groups, DJ Kishka and performances by folk dancers.
The tent will also be the site of the Miss Dyngus Pageant (at 4:30 p.m). A variety of restaurants will be offering Polish cultural food and beverages for purchase and there will be lots of vendors selling Polish merchandise.
A big attraction at Cleveland Dyngus Day will be the Accordion Parade taking place on Detroit Ave. at 6 p.m. All accordionists are welcome to participate. If you wish to participate come to the parking lot near 5708 Detroit Ave. by 5:30 p.m with your accordion.
Dyngus Day events will start at 10 a.m. on March 28. Live polka bands will be playing at various locations all day. Admission to Cleveland Dyngus Day is free.
