Sunday’s Iowa vs. Villanova live stream online and televised basketball game leads off more second round action from the 2016 NCAA Tournament. In this game from the South region, the No. 2 seed Wildcats of the Big East take on a upset-minded No. 7 seed Hawkeyes team from the Big Ten. Villanova got to this game with a big opening round win 86-56 over Asheville while Iowa needed a last second airball outback to beat Temple in overtime. Now the two teams will do battle in Brooklyn with the winner advancing to the Sweet 16 round. Will Nova’s firepower and defense be too much to contend with? The 2016 NCAA Tournament live streaming and TV game coverage comes via CBS network and March Madness Live.
According to The Gazette in their March 19 report, these two schools met two years ago in the Battle 4 Atlantis championship game set in the Bahamas. The game featured a variety of lead changes and an overtime session with Villanova eventually capturing the five point win in the extra five minutes. Now the two schools meet again with much more at stake as the winner moves on to play again and the loser goes back home to regroup for next season. The Hawkeyes sport a 22-10 record while Nova has just five losses and 30 wins on their stellar season. Some analysts and fans even believed Villanova may have been a No. 1 seed in this tournament if not for their loss in the Big East Conference tourney.
The Hawkeyes are led by their senior forward Jarrod Uthoff who averages 19 points and over six rebounds per game. The Wildcats are led by junior guard Josh Hart as the 6-foot-5, 205-pound player from Silver Springs, Maryland averages 15.3 points and almost seven rebounds a game to go with nearly two assists per contest. Villanova is currently ranked as No. 31 in the nation in assists per game and 20th when it comes to scoring defense, allowing just 63.7 points per game to opponents. Iowa is also an unselfish team, ranking 32nd in the assists category, 68th in rebounding and 57th in scoring as they put up 78.1 per game. To the team’s credit, they had two huge resume-building wins over another No. 2 seed Michigan State this past season, so don’t count this team out at all.
The Villanova Wildcats were listed as seven-point favorites on the spread as of Saturday night. Against the spread, the Hawkeyes have been 14-16-1 overall and 4-2 when playing the role of the underdog. The Wildcats have been 16-17-1 overall and 16-15-1 as a favorite. On the moneyline, they had a price of -310, while Iowa carried a price of +260 as the underdog team. The over/under points total was at 146 points for the complete game. On the future odds list, the Wildcats carry odds of 18 to 1 to win the NCAA Tournament while Iowa is considered an 80 to 1 longshot to win it all. However, at this point in the tournament upsets have already been happening all over the place so anything is possible with March Madness.
