On Thursday, the Iowa vs. Maryland live stream online and televised 2016 NCAA basketball game takes center stage from the Top 25 schedule. These two teams are currently ranked at No. 3 and No. 8 and will battle it out in what could be a classic Big Ten matchup. Both teams have just three losses on their season, with Maryland’s 17 wins just one more than the Hawkeyes have. The Terrapins will try to get a huge home win over a top tier opponent in order to move back up towards the No. 1 spot in the rankings. The 2016 NCAA basketball live streaming and televised matchup arrives through ESPN networks Thursday night.
According to Fox Sports in their Jan. 27 game preview, Iowa has a nine-game winning streak going into their game, with the most recent an 83-71 victory over then-No. 22 Purdue. The Hawkeyes have started off 7-0 in the Big Ten conference so far, with six of those games by double digits. They also lead the nation with wins against Top 25 teams, having defeated five of them so far this season. That includes the Michigan State Spartans twice by an average of 15 points, and Purdue twice as well. The team has dropped two games to ranked opponents, including their last loss, an 83-82 fair at Iowa State.
As for the Terrapins, they come into this game sitting at third in the Big Ten with a 6-2 mark in the conference. They most recently dropped a game at No. 11 Michigan State 74-65 and have gone 3-2 in their last five. Melo Trimble continues to lead the way for the team in scoring at 14.4 points a game, steals with 1.2 per game, and assists with 5.6 per game. Forward Robert Carter tops the team in rebounding and blocks while adding 13.2 points scoring on average as well. In terms of team stats, they aren’t the strongest in rebounding or assists, but defensively rank at No. 30 in terms of points allowed, giving up just 64.1 a game on average to opponents.
Despite Iowa’s resume so far this season, the home team gets the role of the favorite from the odds makers. Maryland is favored by about four points on the spread at most books, with the over/under points total for the game at 146-1/2 points as of early Thursday morning. Both teams are listed on the future odds list to win the 2016 National Championship with Maryland still slightly higher at 12 to 1 odds, and Iowa just below them at 15 to 1 odds to win it all.
