The Iowa State vs. Virginia live stream online and televised 2016 NCAA Tournament game will feature two more Sweet 16 teams battling for a spot in the Elite Eight. Four teams qualified on Thursday night, but the Atlantic Coastal Conference will be on full display Friday as four teams from the ACC will try to move on to the remaining spots. This matchup will see an upset-minded No. 4 seeded Cyclones squad attempting to dethrone the first of the No. 1 seeds, the Virginia Cavaliers. Will ACC Player of the Year Malcolm Brodgdon and company continue their smothering defense and winning ways? The 2016 NCAA live streaming and televised action comes via CBS and March Madness Live.
According to WRIC.com in their March 24 report, the Cavaliers got to this Sweet Sixteen matchup after defeating No. 16 seed Howard and No. 9 seed Butler. While their win over Howard was an 81-45 thrashing, they had a relatively tight contest against the Bulldogs, edging them 77-69. Tonight they’ll take on a Cyclones team that has defeated No. 13 seed Iona 94-81 and No. 12 seed Arkansas-Little Rock 78-61. To its credit, they’ve upset Oklahoma 82-77 back when they were the No. 1 seed and have defeated Kansas 85-72, showing that this Iowa State team has what it takes to give contenders a run for their money. Virginia will look to leading scorer Malcolm Brogdon, who recored 22 points in the win against Butler, but they’ll also hope for Anthony Gill and London Perrantes to be among those adding some points.
For Iowa State, they’ve been led by Georges Niang, as the forward has averaged 20.2 points per game this past season along with 6.2 boards and 3.3 assists per game. In the team’s two tournament wins, Niang has been a force to be reckoned with, consistently scoring exactly 28 points in each game and also grabbing six rebounds while getting three assists in each of the wins. The team hasn’t shown any trouble in handling their opponents yet, but neither was exactly a No. 1 seed either. Tonight’s game comes down to whether or not Iowa State can find a way to score against a smothering Virginia defense, which ranks sixth overall in scoring defense, giving up just 57 points per game to opponents. This past season certainly showed the Cyclones can upset higher-ranked teams so don’t expect them to be too intimidated by the higher seed.
The Virginia Cavaliers enter tonight’s matchup as six-point favorites on the spread at various books. Both of these teams have performed well against the spread in the tournament, boasting 2-0 overall records, but the Cavaliers have gone 2-0 as favorites. On the moneyline, Virginia is priced at -290 tonight with the underdog Cyclones at +245. Tonight’s over/under points total sits at 142 or so heading into the matchup. Future odds indicate that Virginia has 6 to 1 odds to win the National Championship, while Iowa State is a 30 to 1 longshot right now.
