The Sin Seer’s actor Isaiah Washington is known for roles in “True Crime”, “Romeo Must Die” and “Grey’s Anatomy” among many others. In an interview with Celebrity Examiner Jae Monique, Isaiah Washington discussed his role as an actor and also as a producer.
Jae Monique: How did you get involved with “The Sin Seer?”
Isaiah Washington: I just thought it was a very unique story, I thought it was a very unusual story, and more importantly, in all the years in this business, I’ve never seen people of color in a story like this. I even let my wife read it which I hardly ever do, just to let you know I was excited about the story… We knew it would be a hard sale because we hadn’t seen people of color do crazy roles in crazy settings. I still think it would be a wonderful television series. I hope Paul does that and moves toward it.
JM: Tell us about your character you played-Grant Summit.
Washington: I enjoyed that. I didn’t see it coming. When I read the script, I jumped out of the bed like ‘Oh My God… I think we pulled it off…It’s a thriller, it’s make believe and I’m sure as a good audience member, I still like to be shocked and entertained and still feel that my time wasn’t wasted. My goal jumping in was just trying to give the best performance, the most credible performance, the most believable performance. As an actor when I’m acting, you’re only as good as your recent performance. Nobody cares about 20 years ago. They want to know ‘What have you done for me lately.’ Nobody cares about “Love Jones”, they love it, but it was a long time ago. My goal as an actor was to have fun and be committed to it
JM: Since there were so many twists, was there anything you did to prepare for your role?
Washington: No, the only thing that I did was really more on producer terms. The only painful battle that I had with Paul is I just couldn’t shoot everything he wrote. We just didn’t have time. It had nothing to do with acting, that was really my producer time… It was like ‘I hear you, I love you, but we don’t have time to shoot, the film is too long’. We didn’t have time. When you build reality to the budget, the crew is tired and as a producer you have to make hard calls. The goal is people appreciate my performance and appreciate what I’m trying to as a producer now.
