A new TNA World Heavyweight Champion in Drew Galloway and a series of solid storyline developments this week have changed TNA for the better. With Mike Bennett’s rise as a viable heel, Ethan Carter III will have a new feud so Galloway can become a champion the company can be proud of. Competition in the tag team division is interesting too, as Decay continues to get wins any way they can. Overall, this week’s Impact was the best of 2016 and an exciting way to turn the page after Kurt Angle’s departure.
King of the Mountain Champion Eric Young vs. Jeff Hardy: Winner Gets World Title Shot Later in the Night: Solid match with plenty of back and forth. While Young hit a nice share of his repertoire, Hardy eventually got the win with the Swanton Bomb.
Maria Kanellis and Mike Bennett vs. Drew Galloway and TNA Knockouts Champion Gail Kim: Wow, after Kim and Bennett hit the Eat Defeat and the Claymore on Bennett, Kanellis stole a win with a Schoolboy on Kim for the win.
Decay: Abyss, Crazy Steve and Rosemary vs. TNA Tag Team Champions Beer Money: Bobby Roode and James Storm and Eddie Edwards: Beer Money and Edwards did everything right, but the Mist from Rosemary and a Low Blow from Steve allowed Decay to take home the win.
Ladder Match for Grado’s Career: Grado vs. Eli Drake: This was easily Grado’s best performance in TNA yet as he fought through interference from Jessie Godderz and hit the Bionic Elbow from the top of the ladder reclaim his job at Impact Wrestling.
TNA World Heavyweight Champion Matt Hardy w/Reby and Tyrus vs. Ethan Carter III and Jeff Hardy: This was a war, especially after Eric Young and Bram took out Jeff Hardy with a Piledriver on the outside after he hit Matt with the Swanton Bomb. Rockstar Spud and Tyrus eventually beat on EC3 but Carter hit the TKO on Tyrus and Gorilla Pressed Spud out of the ring. Matt Hardy then hit the Low Blow, but EC3 hit the One Percenter before Mike Bennett nailed Carter with a chair. After Carter kicked out, he kicked out again from a Twist of Fate before Bennett threw Carter to the outside and hit him with a chair a few times. With Carter out on the floor, Hardy grabbed his belt and told the crowd no one would be able to take his title away from him. At that moment, Drew Galloway hit the ring and cashed in his Feast or Fired Briefcase. After a few Hardy headbutts and strikes, Galloway countered the Twist of Fate and hit the Claymore and Future Shock DDT to win the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.
