On Wednesday, Jan 27, with Image Skincare and The Wizard of Spa sponsoring, practitioners, estheticians, and business owners were invited to tour the beautiful Blavatnik Wellness Center at the Ronald McDonald House of New York. Image Skincare has partnered with The Wizard of Spa to raise awareness for the necessity to provide needed tender loving care to family caregivers. Parents and guardians working so tirelessly to stay strong to care for their little ones need to be cared for as well in order to give them the strength to carry on.
As a sanctuary in the middle of New York City, the Ronald McDonald House of New York, at 405 East 73rd Street, brings a touch of homespun comfort to children fighting for their lives, along with their families. Realizing the need to give healing powers to those caring for their children, the beautiful house that Ronald built now houses its own caregiver service center. In a lovely atrium on the ninth floor the Blavatnik Wellness Center provides a wonderful spa program aimed to give a respite to the adults aiding their children to win the fight to live.
The Ronald McDonald House of New York Spa for a Cause program depends on the support from wellness professionals donating efforts, time and abilities to further this amazing effort. With the help from Image Skincare and The Wizard of Spa, the program is becoming known among the wellness community. Spa for a Cause aims to bring spa professionals together to donate services centered on giving caregivers much needed services to refresh their body in order to renew souls and spirits. Some of the services provided include massage, yoga, aroma therapy, manicures and pedicures, haircuts, facials and skin care.
Wednesday evening filled the house and spa in a fun atmosphere of live entertainment, cocktails, and hors d’vores with support from the spa team from the Peninsula Hotel & Spa. Whether once a week, a year, or numerous times a month, donations of relaxation sessions and beauty treatments are being sought to either be performed at the Ronald MacDonald House spa, at the donors own location, or bedside at the hospital. Even those who cannot commit the time, or just wish to participate, are welcome to join in the giving spirit by sponsoring a spa package or donating gift bags.
Guests and house staff are invited to take part of a healthy snack once a week to learn about holistic health and nutrition. Once a month wellness and beauty nights provide guest caregivers with mini spa treatments, healthy snacks and donated goody bags. The spa effort is open to have more gratuities and options of sponsor wellness nights and wellness classes for parents.
Richard Martin, Director of Marketing, proudly mentioned the Ronald MacDonald House’s effort of making larger rooms specifically for bone marrow transplant patients, complete with a kitchen so parents don’t have to leave the room. He made it known that they strive to soothe parents’ wishes of not leaving their precious children alone for even a moment. All rooms have been equipped with washing machines to allow parents to do laundry without the need of leaving their child. Martin spoke of the House’s goal to cater to the caregivers needs.
“There is no replacement that gives aid to a child than the mom. Your giving helps mom to stay healthy in order to focus on her child.”
Listening to a mother holding her very young daughter speak of how the Ronald MacDonald House spa has been such a blessing to her, brings home what a lifesaving endeavor Spa for a Cause is. As she snuggled her adorable child, the grateful mom explained how important the spa has been to her. She specifically stated how appreciative she is to have massages and the other services, as well as a place to visit to have a moment to sit and just have someone to talk to.
The Wizard of Spa, Laura Pelliccio, who is extremely active in the spa community spoke of creating awareness of the Spa for a Cause effort to the spa industry. Monique Iacobacci, of Image Skincare, spoke of being blessed to be part of the spa wellness program. Iacobacci encourages people to communicate in order to brainstorm new ideas of ways to give to caregivers. Iacobacci, along with Image Skincare, is working hard to support the venue and its vital cause. “We have so much to give and should be so happy to volunteer. We need to pull the spa community together to act as ambassadors to spread the Spa for a Cause word out,” Iacobacci stated simply.
n order to manage the Spa for a Cause effort, a calendar for the 2016 year has been crafted to make it easy for spas and professionals to sign up specific dates and times to donate to this industry movement. Ronald MacDonald House of New York is continuously seeking practitioners and organizations to volunteer services. For those interested and who could not attend the event, The Ronald McDonald House of New York invites the spa community to call for a visit to tour of the new Blavatnik Wellness Center and take part of the initiative. As a nonprofit, the House and spa effort rely on the charity of volunteers and donators.
The Ronald MacDonald house began their spa program long before they had their own in-house spa. They noticed that the caregivers of the resident’s patients were neglecting their own selves. It was realized that if the female and male caregivers received some much needed tender loving care themselves, they would gather more strength needed to help their little ones gain the strength to recover. As the word has spread, those in the spa industry have jumped on board to volunteer support for the growing spa project. The wellness program’s mission statement ,”Taking care of the caregiver is a necessity not a luxury,” aims to pay good karma forward.
