Viewers will watch Butler vs. Virginia live stream online and televised game coverage Saturday as the 2016 NCAA Tournament continues. This matchup, pitting a No. 9 seed versus a No. 1, could have upset alert written all over it. The Butler Bulldogs come into the matchup with a 22-10 record and a win over Texas Tech in the opening round. Virginia was able to eliminate Hampton easily in their first round matchup, routing them 81-45. Can the Cavaliers keep rolling as they try to get into the Sweet 16, or will Butler spoil their party? The 2016 NCAA live streaming and TV presentation comes via TBS network and March Madness Live apps.
According to The Daily Progress in a March 18 report, these two teams share two common opponents that each played during the past season, with Miami and Villanova. The Bulldogs fell to the Hurricanes earlier in the season 85-75 and then lost to Villanova twice during conference play. The first meeting was a five point loss at home with the second a 10 point loss at Nova. Virginia was able to take down Villanova, who was ranked at No. 12 at the time, 86-75, beat Miami at home 66-58 and then lost to them on the road in the regular season. However, UVA was able to defeat Miami 73-68 in the conference tournament as well. The team currently ranks second in the nation in scoring defense, as they give up just under 60 points per game and are second only to Wichita State.
Butler is the No. 22 team in the nation when it comes to scoring, as they put up 80.6 points per game. Guard Kellen Dunham leads the way with 16.3 points per contest, but Roosevelt Jones may be the one to watch. At 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, the senior guard is a tough one, and ranks in the top 10 in both career rebounds and assists for the Bulldogs. He filled up both categories on his stat line against the Red Raiders, pulling down 8 boards and dishing out six assists while also recording two steals. Dunham led all scorers with 23 points despite starting out slow in the game which ultimately say Butler prevail. Now they’ll see if they can outwit an intense Cavaliers’ defense in Raleigh, North Carolina to advance to the Sweet Sixteen.
The No. 1-seeded Cavaliers enter this matchup as eight-point favorites on the spread. Neither team has been significantly strong against the spread this season. Butler is 16-15 overall and 4-5 as the underdog, while Virginia is 17-14-2 overall and 15-12-2 as favorite. On the moneyline, they’re priced as a -360 favorite while Butler is a +300 underdog. The over/under points total for the game is 131 for the complete game. For future odds bettors, Vegas Insider lists UVA as a 5 to 1 favorite to win it all now that Michigan State has been bounced from the tournament. Butler is a longshot at 80 to 1 odds as of this report.
