America is a great country. Built on principles of freedom, individualism, and self reliance, it enables those who wish to take advantage of such precepts tons of opportunities to accomplish their dreams. Such diversity and melting pot culture enables a person to be themselves, and that has always been where the glory of America is found.
This is important because when you ask yourself,, “What do I want to do with my life?”, there are relatively unlimited options. Of course, with the concept of freedom at the helm, most people have goals and dreams that fall along the lines of owning their own business- working for themselves, building financial independence, and a variety of other options that pertain to self actualization and wish fulfillment. If it was that simple though, everyone would be doing it. Maximizing the advantages of capitalism, free markets, and free enterprise isn’t for everyone.
Living free optimally requires hard work, sacrifices, perseverance, and dedication. Many people dream of success and accomplishing great things, but so few actually do what it is in their heart they really want to do. Why is that? If achieving one’s goals was as simple as buying a lottery ticket and getting lucky, that would be great, but that’s not what these principles of freedom are founded on.
If you research and study some of the most prominent and successful individuals who drive the entrepreneurial, individualistic spirit of America that leads to innovation, high achievement, business success, and life fulfillment in general, you’ll most likely find that they found a way to override their environment.
What does “overriding the environment” mean? Simply put, it means becoming a leader and not following the crowd, particularly a crowd where everyone is going for the same thing. Self actualizers who go onto live their dreams and up to their potential, reaching their goals and breakthroughs, tend to follow their heart, listen to themselves, set direct clear goals, and discipline themselves, working hard to reach their American Dream. These are the people throughout the course of history inspire people and make great contributions in a variety of fields, or they could just be the local mom and pop store or business in your neighborhood. They are maximizing freedom to be themselves, develop their talents, and do what they want.
However, they’re usually not going to get there without utilizing the principles of overriding their environment if they’re going to succeed at reaching their goals. Here are the ways to succeed by not following the crowd so you can accomplish your own unique goals:
1. Become a Leader
Everyone comes from somewhere, an environment where most people naturally gravitate to the “norm”. They focus on fitting in and following the crowd. To succeed in accomplishing your dreams, you’re going to have to become a leader. You will have to get out of the comfort zone, out of the “box”, and take risks with the confidence that your goals are real, important, and matter.
2. Eliminate Commonplace Negative Thinking
It is so easy to “give up”, think it’s “impossible”, or be fearful of being an outcast. However, if you develop a sound, solid plan where you can measure your progress and accomplish little goals one step at a time, you have every reason to be positive and think it’s possible for your goals to succeed.
3. Surround Yourself With Older Successful People
Young people tend to care more about fitting in and are often competitive on a shallow level. They haven’t developed wisdom that only years of experience can provide. One of the great keys to your achievement and success will come down to finding a mentor or two, that is surrounding yourself with older, wiser people who can help you and who have your best interests at heart.
4. Express Enthusiasm, Optimism, and Positivity
Positive energy can be contagious, and it’s real. Positive people who express enthusiasm toward what it is they’re doing and want usually tend to gain support and helpers, fans who cheer for them as they succeed one step at a time.
5. Work Hard and Be Extremely Disciplined With Your Goals in Mind
Of course, nothing happens without hard work and discipline toward your goals. You must prioritize your goals and dreams at all times in every instance you have to make a decision. You will have to make some sacrifices, but in the end, once you succeed, you’ll usually find they were worth it.
If you can do these things, suddenly things which you thought and that others told you were impossible, suddenly become real, possible, and actualized.
