How to Choose Colors for Your Rooms

by byte clay

What are the reasons we either instantly fall in love with a room or we want to step out immediately after setting foot inside? Well for starters the reasons for this can range from furniture to other smaller details, but for the most part what we are really affected by are the colors in a room instead of said details. You will likely not be consciously aware of it, but the response toward an object is more or less 60% affected by the colors of said object. The psychological aspect of that results in subtle manipulations that are used by marketing companies, interior decorators and other professionals, as well as artists. There is a known connection between moods and colors, as they will result in different combinations each time. To bring out a better mood you would do well to work on finding the right colors for your rooms and what that entails. The guidelines ahead will give you some pointers on how you should tie your colors together in a room, both with the walls and the rugs beneath them:

Starting small

If you’re not sure where to go with the colors of your home, then make an experiment by using a small room or even the bathroom to find out more. Pick one area where you want to see good results and a place where you can make your first steps. Choose a color or shade that you believe works best for said room and fitting artwork and you will have a nice setup.

Setting up the mood through colors

Whenever you need to make the choice of colors, then you should consider what moods you’re willing to bring out in your chosen rooms. If you want to have a room that induces a calm and relaxing mood, then you would do well to focus on blues and greens for example. Brighter and more vivid colors such as red, yellow, orange and all varieties between them can invoke more passionate response befitting a person whose moods are the same. You can pick more neutral shades with peach and gray, but those will be muted and won’t carry the same message, making them uniquely suited for houses for sale. Do consider that certain colors and surfaces would be a real nightmare when it comes to reliable house cleaning, so focus on those that would make your rug cleaning, upholstery cleaning and other aspects easier.

The importance of lighting

There is a reason why stores have boxes with testing paint chips, since natural light will bring out the most beautiful aspects of a color. Incandescent light bulbs are closer to natural lighting than most others, which make for a nice and warm look, but you can bring out the crisper look of blue tones with fluorescent and LED lighting. Know your colors and the right lighting to make them stand out as needed. Keeping all of this in mind will make your day easier when you want to combine colors and elements of interior design.
