UPDATE: Duke was adopted. The following good news was posted: “I am so excited for this handsome guy. I hope that with love, good food, care, and attention he will have some time to enjoy life with his new person/people! Here’s to sunny days spent lying in the grass and the peace and joy that come with having a home! Way to go, sweet Duke! WOO HOO!!”
A loyal, but extremely 11-year-old German shepherd is trying to be brave; all is life he had a home, but his family is homeless, and there was no place for Duke to go except to a shelter. And now Duke, waits at the San Bernardino City Animal Shelter hoping his family will return, but tragically there’s little hope that will happen.
The shelter staff and personnel describe Duke as very sweet and gentle. As his family lead him into the shelter on Wednesday, Duke panted heavily and walked slowly. A volunteer, Noni, met the dog soon after his arrival stating, “he’s very mellow, very sweet and I love him.” Click here for Duke’s PetHarbor adoption listing. DUKE – ID#A356931. “My name is Duke and I am a neutered male, black and brown German Shepherd Dog. Shelter staff think I am about 8 years old. I have been at the shelter since Apr 20, 2016.” For more information about this animal, call San Bernardino City Animal Control at (909) 384-1304. A Facebook page for Duke can be found here. (Note: Pet Harbor has Duke’s age listed as 8, however his kennel card listing states the dog is 11-years-old.)
It has been noted that Duke may have an abdominal mass that will have to be evaluated by a veterinarian. It is unknown at this time whether this senior might need a hospice situation, but advocates want him to spend the rest of his life in a comfortable and loving home – however long he might have left. Duke has lost everything; his home, the people he loved, his security, and this is the time he needs the most help.
“Duke seems like a very special dog and it’s up to us to find him a very special home! SHARE like crazy because this sweet, older guy might not make it without our help. You never know who will see your share and want to give this abandoned angel a home, a bed, and lots of love,” stated Pets Connect Us.
