The Holy Cross vs. Southern live stream online and televised 2016 NCAA First Four game tips off the last two of the “play-in” games in Dayton ahead of Thursday’s first round matchups. On Tuesday night, both Florida Gulf Coast and Wichita State managed to win by large margins over their opponents. Will the Crusaders or Jaguars do the same tonight? One of the two teams will emerge as a first round No. 16 seed with the No. 1 seed Oregon Ducks awaiting them on Friday evening. The 2016 NCAA live streaming online and televised coverage arrives via truTV and March Madness Live on Wednesday.
According to ABC News in their March 15 report, Holy Cross is the only team entering this year’s field that has a losing record. The Crusaders were 14-19 for their season, but won their final four games of the season, on the road, and then went on to capture the Patriot League championship. They become the 25th such team since 1955 to have a losing record as they start NCAA Tournament play. Now they’ll take on Southern University, a team that was 22-12 for their season and defeated the Jackson State Tigers 54-53 to capture the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship. Of note, Southern took on some relatively tough opponents out of conference this past season including Memphis, Arkansas, Mississippi State and Tulane, the latter two which they have wins over.
Leading the Jaguars for tonight’s game is guard Adrian Rogers who averages 16.6 points per game and shoots at a rate of 41.1 percent from the floor. Forward Jared Sam is scoring about 10 points a contest and shoots 56.5 percent from the floor while also snatching 6.4 boards a game to lead the squad. The team’s most notable stat could be points allowed as they were No. 105 in the nation, giving up 69 per game. All other statistical categories had then ranked 183rd or lower. For Holy Cross, they took on the top overall seed of this year’s tournament Kansas and lost that game in a beatdown 92-59. The team, led by forward Malachi Alexander’s 12 points per game and nearly three assists, finished second-to-last in the Patriot conference, making them seem like the biggest potential Cinderella story if they win tonight.
Vegas odds makers first started the point spread at 2-1/2 points in favor of Southern for tonight’s matchup, with an over/under points total of 132 points for the game. The spread has generally remained around that amount at several sports books while the over/under has dipped to as low as 128-1/2 points at some books. When it comes to beating the spread this past season, the Crusaders were 13-20 overall and 11-7 as the underdog team while Southern has gone 20-14 overall and 8-9 as the favorites.
