Surf Expo is always a fun place to s cope out all the new eyewear or sunglasses the major brands are rolling out for the 2016 season. A visit to the Hobie booth, Jessica Eisemann an Eye King Marketing Coordinator was giving a tour of the new Hobie Hydro Collection. Eye King is one of the leading designers, manufacturers, marketers and distributor of many of the eyewear brands you see in sporting goods and outdoor and fishing specialty stores.
Each year at Surf Expo eyewear or sunglass brands try to outdo each other to gain market share. This year Hobie was showing off their new Hydro Collection. This collection seems to be and adaptation of some of their classic sunglass frames with the addition of a really cool opening to attach an integrated sunglass retainer. The Hydro Collection comes in four styles, Phin, Cruz-R, Manta, and the Ventana. See photos of the Phin linked to this article.
This is not a new idea. Click HERE for an byteclay.com article on Zoinx sunglasses with the built in retainer clip.
When comparing the Hobie and Zoinx frames, it appears that the designers at Hobie Polarized have beefed up the temple bow to create thicker space for the retainer opening. The Zoinx frame hole appears to be real flimsy and may not be able to handle rough handling like the Hobie Polarized frame can do.
According to Hobie Polarized, “The Hydro Collection features our advanced Hydro Infinity polarized lens technology, including easy to clean dual-sided coatings that repel water, sweat and sunscreen from building up. Additional features include a proprietary anti-fog gasket that prevents fogging by keeping the face constantly cool, and a fully adjustable and removable integrated retainer system, keeping you connected to your Hobie’s and hands free at all times.”
Each Hydro Collection pair comes with an integrated and comfortable custom retainer with quick release clips that can easily pop on and off and sliding cables to make it easy to wear and adjust to every head shape. In addition you get a hard case to protect your sunglasses and a microfiber cleaning cloth. The price point for the Hydro Collection is $99.99. This is $19.00 cheaper than Zoinx sunglasses which retails for $119.00. You can purchase any of the Hydro Collection sunglasses on line from the Hobie Polarized website or from a store near you. Until next time, be safe in the sun and have a great day in the great outdoors.
