Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, ON, and Maude-Aimee Leblanc of Sherbrooke, QC, both carded scores of 3-under 70 on Saturday at the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic to get into a tie for 16th and lead the Canadian contingent heading into Sunday’s final round.
Alena Sharp of Hamilton, ON, the third Canadian in the field, actually had the best round of the day by a Canuck when she posted a 4-under 69 to move up 26 places from T57 to T31 at the Ocean Club Golf Course. Henderson’s round included birdies at holes 2, 8, 13, 15 and on the par 5 18th. Leblanc made birdies at holes 6, 9, 11, 13, 15 and 18. A double bogey at the par 3 17th nudged her down the leaderboard before she quickly shook it off to join Henderson at 6-under 213 after the final hole.
Anna Nordqvist of Sweden and Charley Hull of England lead the first tournament of the LPGA season at 12-under 207. Nordvist posted a 5-under 68 and Hull shot 69. The Swede carded six birdies during the round while Hull posted five birdies.
Three players – Stacy Lewis of the U.S, Hyo Joo of South Korea and Sei Young Kim of South Korea – trail the leaders by one stroke. Final round TV coverage of the tournament can be seen on Golf Channel from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m.
