Sarasota Florida is a beautiful place to visit and live. No one would think that the ugly sport of greyhound racing could exist in such a prestigious location, but it does. The Sarasota Kennel Club is a place where gambling on cards takes place and thus they must have dog racing as well. It seems kind of silly when the dog racing industry as a whole is a dying business. Greyhound advocates, like GREY2K USA Worldwide, are feverishly attempting to change that and in Florida there are currently two legislative actions at stake:
1. Decouple Live Greyhound Racing
2. Greyhound Injury Reporting (House Bill 1199 and Senate Bill 412)
Who is GREY2K USA?
GREY2K USA Worldwide has become an official voice for greyhounds and according to their website, “Formed in 2001, GREY2K USA Worldwide is the largest greyhound protection organization in the world. As a non-profit organization, we work to pass stronger greyhound protection laws and to end the cruelty of dog racing on both national and international levels.” Please take a moment to visit their website to learn more about these two legislative actions and how you can help to get them to pass and go into effect.
Why Have Greyhounds?
Greyhounds are regal and athletic creatures with gentle souls. These gentle giants seek to live a laid back lifestyle as your faithful companion. Greyhound Adoptions of Florida is a nonprofit organization that helps to place retired greyhounds in permanent and loving homes. Greyhounds like Kira look for wonderful homes where they can live life as your new canine buddy. If you are interested in adopting Kira or another Greyhound, please reach out to them.
Greyhounds deserve better than to be living in a kennel to be bet on and raced against for human enjoyment. Please educate yourself on this pathetic sport and help to end greyhound racing by asking your local lawmaker to support the two listed legislative actions. When more opposition is expressed against the sport, it will more likely take a backseat and dog racing clubs will become obsolete.
