On Saturday night, burglars broke into the home of Maggie Burgess in Beswick, United Kingdom. Bad enough the thieves ransacked the woman’s home after breaking in through a kitchen window and escaping with cash, but what they did to Maggie’s Shar-Pei named Boo was even more distrubing, reports the ManchesterEveningNews.
Maggie, who lives on Kylemore Way; when she returned home about 8:15 she was devastated when she found her five-year-old Shar Pei, Boo had been stabbed in the head, neck and back. Although Boo is a very friendly dog, Maggie feels she may have been trying to defend her home when the assailants stabbed the dog. Veterinarians believe Boo had been attacked with a machete. Boo has only been with Maggie for the last six months.
“She is an absolutely amazing dog – everyone loves Boo,” stated Maggie. “She eats, drinks, sleeps, snores and walks, and she absolutely loves her life. She’s a big softy. There was no need to do what the burglars did, but these people are not human beings. Sick is not the word for them, and Boo could easily have been killed. The vet said she must have had a guardian angel to survive because she lost an awful lot of blood.”
Maggie described the scene of her home when she walked in as a bloodbath. Initially she just wrapped her arms around her dog, and called for her neighbors and the police. “There was blood all over the windows, like someone had been bleeding to death and trying to escape. It was like walking into something out of a horror movie.” Authorities arranged for Boo’s medical treatment and are investigating the break-in and the brutal animal cruelty crime.
On the Facebook page, Justice for Boo, the dog is scheduled to undergo surgery. Just a few hours ago, Maggie updated Boo’s condition and thanked everyone for their help.
“Hi folks just a quick update on Boo. I’ve left her at the vets in Bolton; she has 3 serious stab wounds one on the top of head which has gone that far in it has damaged her sinus bone, one to the left side that is a deep laceration and a 3 cm stab wound to to her side.
