Lewis Hamilton has gotten off to a rough start this season, losing the last 3 races in a row to teammate Nico Rosberg, and trailing him by 36 points in the current standings. However, the reigning F1 champ seemed to be back in form Friday after bouncing back to top the times in during the 2nd free practice at Sochi for tomorrow’s Russian Grand Prix. If he wins, it will be his 3rd consecutive Russian GP having won there in 2014 and 2014 on his way to his 2nd and 3rd World Championship titles.
Although he was 2nd fastest to Rosberg during the initial outing, Hamilton’s famous mojo was back for round 2, clocking in a best lap in one minute and 37.583 seconds, more than 6/10ths of a second faster than nearest rival Sebastian Vettel, who actually stopped out on track during the session after suffering an electrical failure. Meanwhile Rosberg who was unable to find a clear lap and was 3rd. 8/10s off Hamilton’s pace, with Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen 4th. Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo was 5th for Red Bull, having tested the team’s latest cockpit safety device on his installation lap in the morning, with Williams’ Valtteri Bottas 6th. Meanwhile, hometown hero. Daniil Kvyat was 7th on the Autodrom circuit in the 2nd Red Bull car ahead of the much improved McLaren Hondas of Jenson Button, 8th, and Fernando Alonso, 10th,.Williams second driver Felipe Massa ended up sandwiched between them in 9th.
