Between exciting Miami Beach and sophisticated Fort Lauderdale sits the Beachwalk Resort in Hallandale Beach, Florida. The hotel couldn’t be better located – it’s right on the famous Intracoastal Waterway and a block from one of the best beaches in the state to soak up the sun. Add in the nearby shopping and this is a not-to-be-missed Florida vacation destination.
I spent a night at this fantastic resort just a few days ago along with my husband, David, and our 11-year-old son. I chose the hotel because of its location. I left the next day with a thousand more reasons the Beachwalk Resort has my whole-hearted recommendation.
The décor is contemporary and crisp with the occasional bold splash of color. In the lobby, the focal point is a floor-to-ceiling blue and white map of the world with computer stations for guest use in front of it. Low, white sofas, a gorgeous modern ceiling and glossy finishes complete the room. A separate building on the opposite side of the covered drive houses privately owned condos, the entrance to the pool, the cozy bar, a grab-and-go quick food area and the fitness center.
Our one-bedroom, one-bathroom suite was big enough that we could have spent a comfortable two weeks enjoying it. Our full kitchen was stocked with plates, glasses, silverware, pots and pans along with a coffee maker, washer and dryer in a closet and table for four. The designer did a fantastic job of blending soothing neutrals with beachy nature photography on shiny canvas. The family room’s flat TV and deep-seating couch (the depth of a twin bed) helped Liam feel right at home as he set up his things and took it over as his space. His area opened to a balcony with views of the city and Intracoastal Waterway. The bathroom was roomy and the bedroom had a flat TV, walk-in closet and balcony access. Everything about the suite/condo said “relax.” Two- and three-bedroom suites are also available for those who need even more room to spread out.
With the unpacking done, we set off to explore the area. The hotel has an electric cart (think of it as a golf cart limo) that shuttles guests to the beach and Hyde Beach Kitchen + Cocktails, one block away. Here’s a perk – towels, chaise lounge chairs and umbrellas are complimentary! I learned later there are also bikes, water taxi service and car transportation to area activities available. Later, we took our car to the nearby mall, Aventura Mall, and spent a fantastic evening shopping in such stores as Hugo Boss, Burberry, Bloomingdale’s, Apple, Lush, and more high-end and moderately priced choices. There is also a fitness club and AMC theater in this mammoth mall.
We wrapped up the evening in the pool, which is now hands-down my favorite hotel pool of all time. The infinity edge right by the boat dock on the waterway was soothing. The warm water temperature in the slight cool of a January night in Florida was absolute heaven. I didn’t even have to hold my breath and brace myself when getting in. Tired and happy, we spent a comfortable night in the room.
My recommendation: The Beachwalk Resort in Hallandale Beach is an easy choice for its fantastic Intracoastal Waterway location, nearby amenities like the beautiful beach and Aventura Mall, friendly front desk staff and spacious suites.
