In 2008, Republicans were apoplectic that the Agenda Media didn’t pay attention to the scandals surrounding then-Candidate Obama. It’s amazing that some of the people who complained the loudest back then of the Agenda Media’s indifference are either silent now or they’re Donald Trump’s biggest cheerleaders. John Nolte at Breitbart is one of Mr. Trump’s biggest cheerleaders in the conservative press. Nolte’s latest article would be amusing if it wasn’t dishearteningly dishonest. Nolte insists that “the great truth-teller of 2015” is Donald Trump.
Nolte said that “Trump’s only sin in 2015 was telling a number of Hard Truths Democrats and their media allies did not want told.” Actually, Trump committed a litany of sins. Some of his sins are quite large. Others are just annoyingly dishonest. All are proof that Mr. Trump isn’t a man of integrity.
Nolte said that Trump was vindicated for saying that “American Muslims celebrated on 9/11.” Actually, the videotape showed Mr. Trump insisting something different:
Hey, I watched when the World Trade Center came tumbling down. And I watched in Jersey City, New Jersey, where thousands and thousands of people were cheering as that building was coming down. Thousands of people were cheering.
It’s interesting to note that there are 15,000 Muslims currently living in Jersey City, NJ. For Trump to be right, a significant portion of Jersey City’s Muslims would’ve been celebrating. If there were “thousands and thousands of American Muslims” celebrating in the streets of Jersey City, why didn’t Mr. Trump write about it before?
What’s more interesting is that Mr. Nolte didn’t get Mr. Trump’s quote right. There’s a gigantic difference between saying that a handful of Muslims celebrated in Jersey City while the World Trade Center came tumbling down and saying that he watched thousands and thousands of Muslims partying while the Trade Center fell.
Why would Mr. Nolte think of Mr. Trump as the great truth-teller of 2015 after Mr. Trump told CNN’s Don Lemon that Megyn Kelly had “blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her — wherever”? What part of that statement sounds like a statement from a sane man?
Conservatives were right to criticize the Agenda Media for not investigating President Obama. They’re intellectually inconsistent, however, for turning a blind eye towards Mr. Trump’s dishonest statements.
Turning a blind eye towards Mr. Trump’s outrageous statements won’t improve Mr. Nolte’s credibility.
