The 2016 Dubai Desert Classic golf tournament on the European Tour is taking place this week from February 4-7, 2016, on the Majlis Course at the Emirates Golf Club in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Here is a list of the prize money up for grabs for the European Tour players to win at the 2016 Dubai Desert Classic.
The Dubai Desert Classic golf tournament dates back to 1989. Ernie Els (1994, 2002, 2005) holds the record for most wins in the tournament with three. Tiger Woods (2006, 2008), Stephen Gallacher (2013, 2014) and Rory McIlroy (2009, 2015) are tied for the second most wins with two each. The Dubai Desert Classic does not offer a huge prize fund but players come here and play because they often get big appearance fee money or bonuses. Tiger Woods used to get $2-3 million in appearance fees to play here but not anymore. The 2016 field is pretty good with Rory McIlroy, Henrik Stenson, Lee Westwood, Louis Oosthuizen, Martin Kaymer, Ernie Els, Darren Clarke, Graeme McDowell and many other name golfers teeing it up in the Dubai desert this week.
