This is it. The last week that Hollywood doesn’t try. The Hollywood dumping period that exists between Christmas and the Oscars ends this week with the Academy Awards on Sunday. With that knowledge in mind, expectations for this week’s movie releases was not high. “Gods of Egypt” was released to the miserable reviews that you would expect for a movie in this period. “Triple 9” had better reviews but still not great. Both movies feature actors who are to become much better known for their roles in Marvel and DC based movies. The only movie this week that is getting decent reviews is “Eddie the Eagle”. In this period it seems appropriate that a film about an underdog trying when no one expects him to succeed would be the best movie out.

Gods of Egypt (2016)
PG-13 – action
A mortal (Brenton Thwaites) teams up with the Egyptian god Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) to overthrow the god of darkness Set (Gerard Butler) who has taken over Egypt.
“Gods of Egypt” has gotten terrible reviews. From bad acting to bad special effects nothing about this movie appears to be good. The movie does feature two actors who are expected to achieve success… in other roles. Chadwick Boseman will portray Black Panther in Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” and Elodie Yung plays Elektra in the 2nd season of Marvel’s “Daredevil” which will be on Netflix 3/18/16. This appears to be the movie that both will regret and joke about later in their careers.
Gerard Butler, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Brenton Thwaites, Geoffrey Rush, Chadwick Boseman, Elodie Yung
Triple 9 (2016)
R – action
The Russian mob makes dirty cops pull a heist. They decide that the best distraction for the heist would be a triple 9 which is police code for “officer down”. One of the dirty cops doesn’t feel right about killing another police officer and dissension arises.
“Triple 9” is getting mixed reviews. No one seems to be calling it terrible, but many feel the cast is wasted and that the story is a bit messy. Two cast members are on their way to becoming much better known for other roles. Anthony Mackie is Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman debut’s this summer in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”.
Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie, Kate Winslet, Woody Harrelson, Clifton Collins Jr., Aaron Paul, Norman Reedus, Teresa Palmer, Gal Gadot
Eddie the Eagle (2016)

“Eddie The Eagle” is based on the true story of Britain’s first Olympic ski jumper and his struggle to get excepted into the Olympics.
“Eddie the Eagle” is getting good reviews with it being called funny, cute, inspirational, and heartwarming.
