Thursday’s George Washington vs. Valparaiso live stream online and televised matchup will be for the 2016 NIT Championship, after previous rounds of the National Invitation Tournament have completed. The game arrives ahead of the Big Dance holding its Final Four games this weekend, while GW and Valpo each found themselves victorious in their “smaller dance” Final Four games. The Colonials took down San Diego State in a rout while the Crusaders edged Brigham Young in a close one. Now the two teams collide with the NIT Finals 2016 live streaming and televised coverage set to take place via ESPN networks Thursday night.
According to The Chicago Sun-Times in their March 31 report, tonight’s game will feature No. 1 seed Valparaiso trying to grab the NIT Tournament Championship after failing to qualify for the Big Dance. They were listed among the “First Four Out” teams when it came to the brackets, which almost automatically gave them an invite to the NIT instead. To get to the big title game, they recently defeated BYU 72-70 in the NIT Final Four. David Skara’s heroics helped tie the game against the Cougars when he hit a late three-pointer with 20 seconds to go. Kyle Collinsworth led all scorers with 20 points, five rebounds and five assists in the win. His star teammate, leading-scorer Alec Peters had 15 points, and will face a similar player in terms of size and talent with tonight’s No. 4-seeded George Washington Colonials.
George Washington managed to rout the San Diego State Aztecs 65-46 in their semifinals matchup, with Tyler Cavanaugh’s double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds leading the way. Tonight, Cavanaugh and Peters may be the highlighted matchup as these have been the top two performers throughout the NIT Tournament. The two 6-foot-9 forwards both shoot 51 percent from the field and better than 42 percent from three-point range with at least 82 percent free throw shooting marks. While Cavanaugh averages 16.9 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, Peters is averaging 18.4 points and 8.4 boards. Of note, Cavanaugh has achieved a double-double in every game this past season, while Peters has scored 20 points or more in seven-straight games, leading to a 15-point performance against BYU.
Odds makers have this as a very close game with the point spread favoring the Valparaiso Crusaders by three points. Against the spread, GW is 3-1-0 overall, 2-0 as the underdog and 2-0 when playing away from home. Valparaiso is 2-2 overall, 2-1 as favorite and 2-2 at home ATS. On the moneyline, Valpo is a -140 favorite, with George Washington listed as +120 underdogs. The over/under points total is currently around 133 points for the game, so this could be a very tight defensive matchup played inside New York’s Madison Square Garden.
