The annual Gem, Jewelry, Mineral & Fossil Show & Sale is April 30 to May 1, 2016 at the North Charleston Convention Center Complex next to the Coliseum. This is the most diverse gem and jewelry show in Charleston, SC and the Lowcountry. Most of the exhibitors are very experienced and know their gems and minerals. Many great buys can be found here. The prices are the best you will find. It is 10 am – 5 pm both days.
This is a big show for “beaders” and jewelry makers as many of the things they sell have holes in them for stringing into necklaces, etc… They are mostly sold by the strand and are better buys than buying on the Internet or going to a big city. Single pieces can also be found for making pendants. They have all sizes and shapes. Color is everything for gems so you really have to see it for yourself and make your own decisions. Similar pieces in jewelry stores often cost hundreds of dollars.
Fossils are also a very collectable thing, hard to find and often very expensive that will be in the show. They always have a beautiful selection and many are of museum quality, millions of years old. It is a real educational experience and children love it. They have a “For The Kids” area where they can dig for fossils in the Sand Mine.
Lowcountry Geologic is a local fossil and mineral business here in Charleston that exhibits there. They have a great selection of sharks teeth necklaces that most men love. They only do shows so this is it.
The show is sponsored by the Lowcountry Gem and Mineral Society to encourage a greater appreciation by the public. Most people have never seen the quality of gems they have in this show. Finished jewelry will be for sale, some is antique or vintage. Western jewelry using Turquoise is gets a lot of attention. Many jewelry collectors return to this show year after year.
The show is part of the North Charleston Arts Festival 2016 and it’s free with free parking. Don’t miss this show, it’s only once a year!
