On March 16, Candiani Denim celebrated their new Downtown LA Design Center with a launch party for the premium denim industry. The incredible 7,000 square foot facility is the first of its kind here in the U.S. and brings with it all of the heart and innovation that makes LA the perfect new home for the Italian denim pioneers.
Candiani Denim was founded in 1938 just outside of Milan and for 78 years has continued to be at the forefront of the industry. As the leader in high-quality stretch denim, Candiani’s legacy goes back four generations. Gianluigi Candiani transformed the company in the ‘80s and now with his son Alberto at the helm, this enterprise has once again revolutionized the industry.
Alberto Candiani told byteclay.com that premium denim really has to do with the quality of the material and the treatment. It should look good, perform well and have a clean soul.
One of the greatest aspects of what Candiani does is in staying true to its core value of sustainability. In what’s referred to as a special “recipe”, they strive to experiment with their fabrics using the least amount of water, chemicals and energy to achieve each brand’s desired result. The entire Downtown LA facility remarkably consumes less water than a standard dry cleaner.
The Design Center will be the perfect place to research and create originality in fabric. It also provides a unique opportunity for Candiani’s LA-based premium denim clients to collaborate with them on wash development and showcase how the denim industry can thrive while being environmentally friendly.
With LA as a leader in the global denim market and with Candiani now in town, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in order to create the world’s best denim, it gives us an exciting peek into the future as to what’s next for our beloved iconic LA-based brands.
Alberto says that although trends really are more about you as an individual, he definitely sees certain movements emerging in the denim world. There seems to be a demand for more elasticity when it comes to men’s jeans, while flares are making a comeback in women’s wear.
The tip to finding the perfect pair of jeans, Alberto remarked, is in the touch. The feel gives you a different perception as opposed to when you’re just focusing on the fit. Feel it and then see it. The perfect pair of jeans is a happy combination of aesthetics and authenticity.
The state-of-the-art Candiani Design Center will also act as a hub, hosting talks and events throughout the year. The next event takes place on March 18 with an exclusive panel talk entitled “The Transformers” which in partnership with Kingpins Trade Show will discuss the future of denim.
