Pastor and Evangelist Franklin Graham, son of Billy Graham, finally reached the last straw of his support for the Republican Party. According to various sources including Fox News, he announced that he has left the GOP and registered as an Independent.
One of the biggest reasons that convinced him to end his affiliation with the Republican Party was the passing of the Omnibus spending bill by the Republican majority-led congress. Not only did he slam both the Democrats and Republicans for passing the $1.1 trillion dollar spending bill referring to it as “wasteful spending” but he also was particularly angered that it funded Planned Parenthood. In light of the revelations exposing the organization’s selling of baby parts, he stated, “That should’ve been all that was needed to turn off the faucet for their funding. Nothing was done to trim this 2,000 page, $1.1 trillion budget.”
Graham has lost faith in the political system and wrote in part:
I have no hope in the Republican Party, the Democratic Party, or Tea Party to do what is best for America.
He has launched a nationwide tour. Graham has been setting up prayer rallies at every state capitol across the nation. He will be encouraging people of faith to start running for local offices, presumably running outside of the two major parties. According to WND, Franklin Graham stated:
I want to challenge Christians, even pastors, across the country to pray about running for office where they can have an impact. We need mayors, [county] commissioners, city council members, school board members who will uphold biblical values.
A website has been set-up for the nationwide tour called, “Decision America Tour 2016 with Franklin Graham.” The first 4 stops on this tour are as follows: January 5th in Des Moines, January 12th in Tallahassee, January 13th in Baton Rouge and January 19th in Concord, NH. A preliminary list of tour dates through March 31, 2016 can be found here.
Anytime a person of this caliber makes a positive change in standing up for principles over loyalty to political parties that have long lost their principles, it is a very encouraging sign of better things to come. We can hope that many more people across our nation will follow his example in the near future by either finding a 3rd party that better suits their ideals or becoming an Independent. Then, begin working together toward good changes on the local and state levels. Encourage candidates to run for office outside of the corrupt stranglehold of a two-party system that does not seem to care about what is good for We The People.
Voters can’t continue to keep supporting politicians’ actions that are against the will of the people and our laws just because they tout a shiny “R” or “D” behind their name. More people need to get involved, get tough and stand-up for what they believe in and what is right. Our nation can’t keep settling for a never-ending string of excuses. It is time to stand on faith, let go of bad habits and graduate into finally doing something different if we ever expect to bring forth good changes for our people in the future.
