Christian evangelist Franklin Graham, son of world famous Christian evangelist Billy Graham, said on CNN, “And then I want to encourage Christians to get out and vote. And to vote for politicians that support biblical principles, Godly principles because those principles work. We need more Christians in politics. I want to encourage Christians to run for [political offices], but I’m not just talking at the presidential level, I’m talking about all levels of government.”
Unfortunately CNN’s Carol Costello did not ask him which Biblical principles he was talking about. For example, did he mean John 14:12-14 which says that Jesus said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.” Based on this teaching attributed to Jesus, a Christian principle exists in which Christians (those who believe in Jesus) will be able to do all the things Jesus is said to have done, plus more. And in fact, based on this Biblical teaching allegedly from Jesus himself, Christians can get whatever they ask for in the name of Jesus. This principle and promise from Jesus, if it was real and true, would mean Christians have the power to physically heal people and to raise them from the dead, PLUS even more than that! Since Franklin wants the US based on Biblical principles, and since he is opposed to Obamacare and any type of universal health care, he can, and should, act on this Biblical principle and promise from his savior and start clearing out all of the nation’s hospitals. Can you imagine how many converts to Christianity he would win over if he did so??
Carol Costello should have also asked Franklin if he meant the principle and command found at Leviticus 25:44-46 which teaches, “Both thy bondmen, and thy bondmaids, which thou shalt have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye buy bondmen and bondmaids. Moreover of the children of the strangers that do sojourn among you, of them shall ye buy, and of their families that are with you, which they begat in your land: and they shall be your possession. And ye shall take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them for a possession; they shall be your bondmen for ever: but over your brethren the children of Israel, ye shall not rule one over another with rigour.” This clearly is a command from God to Jews to only own Gentile people and our children as slaves “for ever” and never to own a fellow Jew as a slave. Since this is a Biblical principle, does Franklin want to change the US Constitution to allow Jews to own Gentiles as slaves? And if so, would the slaves live according to the Biblical principle found at Ephesians 6:5 which teaches slaves as follows: “Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;” The Bible truly is a very ungodly, repulsive and dangerous book.
Many Christians mistakenly believe that the alleged appearance of Jesus on the scene made the cruel, ungodly and brutal Hebrew Bible/Old Testament obsolete and that we’re now living “under grace.” This is a mistake based on words and teachings the gospel writers put in the mouth of Jesus. For example, Mark 7:1-13 tells the story of Jesus attacking Jews because they did not follow the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament command to kill their children who cursed them. Verses 9-13 make very clear Jesus was under the delusion that God commanded this barbaric act and that the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament are the word of God. They read, “And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition. For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death: But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free. And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother; Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.”
Franklin should realize the truth to what his own father said regarding the Bible. In the November 13, 1995 issue of Christianity Today, page 31, we read, “Questions about the authority of Scripture had been troubling the young preacher (Billy Graham) for weeks. Knowing that the matter must be settled in his mind if he ever hoped to preach with authority and power, he wrestled with his doubts until he was able to pray; ‘Oh God, I cannot prove certain things. I cannot answer some of the questions my friends are asking. [Yet, here and now I am ready to accept the Bible] by faith as the Word of God.'” This shows that Billy Graham knew there was no way to make the nonsense in the Bible align with our innate God-given reason. In order to believe the Biblical nonsense you can only do it by “faith” and as Mark Twain pointed out, “Faith is believing what you know ain’t so.”
Many in the religious right suffer from the same lack of knowledge of American history as Franklin Graham does. For example, the fact that God, Jesus, Moses, Christianity or the Bible are not at all even mentioned in the US Constitution, and in the Declaration of Independence God is only mentioned in Deistic terms such as “Nature’s God” and never in Biblical terms. Add to this the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between the United States and the Bey and Subjects of Tripoli of Barbary, which was started in George Washington’s administration and ratified during the administration of John Adams. Article XI of this treaty clearly and openly states, “As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion . . .”
Thank The Supreme Intelligence/God for Deism! We don’t have to get caught up in the ungodly nonsense of any of the “revealed”/hearsay religions to believe in God. In fact, they all distract us from God with their man-made religion. As we work to get the word out about Deism we are helping many people to free themselves, and in many cases to help them help other people free themselves from religion. Today the World Union of Deists received an email from a new Deist who wrote, “I am so grateful to have found your website; and, so thankful for the ‘about face’ you have made in my life regarding my spirituality. I was teetering between Atheism and Agnosticism before I contacted you. I can appreciate the slight despair one feels at times when dealing with the ‘indoctrinated’ among us. Believe me, I really know, having married into a fundamentalist family, unknowingly of course. But now, my tool box is so much better equipped to deal with the absurdities that they have been taught to believe. And, the best part is, they are much more receptive to my objections now, than when I voiced the “A” philosophies. Thanks for all that you do. Keep up the good work.” The new Deism tools he now has in his tool box that he’s referring to are our Deist Reality Cards and the Deism books we sent him as thank you gifts for his one year subscription to Deistic Thought & Action!.
